Capital Sand is currently recruiting a River Pilot for our Cement Towing Division based in the Mid-Missouri area. The pilot is responsible for the overall safety of the crew, vessel, tow, and cargo during their watch.
Work Schedule: Trips typically are for 8-10 days at a time, time in between travel can vary. Once barges are unloaded Pilot and crew must be ready to leave on the next trip. Please see the description for downtime expectations when not traveling.

Responsibilities
- Safely navigate the barges in tow while assuring the remainder of the crew performs their daily functions
- Operate in strict compliance with all company policies and USCG compliance regulations pertaining to drug, alcohol, pollution, safety, and vessel compliance.
- Ensure vessel navigation equipment, VHF Radios, machinery, rigging, and all related equipment are in operating order.
- Maintain an accurate and current vessel log.
- Conducts drills and safety meetings in accordance with USCG regulations and company policies.
- Timely investigate all accidents occurring during their shift involving boat and crew and make reports to the main office.
- When not towing, the Pilot and crew are responsible for keeping busy with basic maintenance of the boat and helping where needed.
- Must possess a valid U.S. Coast Guard-issued Merchant Mariner Credential: Master of Towing Vessels Upon Western Rivers.
- Must have a valid TWIC card, Radar Observer Certificate, and Radiotelephone Operator Permit.
- Experience in dredging operations and operating on the Missouri River is a plus.
