Purpose Statement
The job of Professional Learning Coach- Special Education is done for the purpose/s of improving student outcomes by leading and guiding districts, teachers, and community partners in implementing research based systemic and instructional practices with the intent to create access for all students.

This job reports to Director - Special Education, Student Support, and Early Learning
Essential Functions
Liaison Role Acts as a liaison between teachers and administrators for the purpose of coordinating curriculum, identifying issues, and/or developing leadership teams.
Data Analysis Analyzes data from a variety of sources for the purpose of assisting in school improvement planning.
Personnel Assistance Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
Meeting Attendance Attends meetings, workshops, etc. (e.g. leadership team, SIP, statewide meetings, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or receiving information to develop or enhance skills.
Coaching and Mentoring Coaches and mentors teachers to utilize training for the purpose of developing effective teacher-leaders within the schools.
Collaboration Collaborates with a variety of groups and/or individuals (e.g. principals, teachers, SIP team members, unit staff, program directors, etc.) for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes, developing solutions, and planning curriculum and school improvement.
Activity Coordination Coordinates activities (e.g. training sessions, classes, workshops, meetings, equipment purchases, etc.) for the purpose of providing information/support, integrating technology, ensuring availability of items and/or delivering services in conformance with established guidelines.
Teaching Demonstration Demonstrates teaching techniques for the purpose of providing effective strategies to improve student success.
Training Program Development Develops and implements staff training programs for the purpose of providing a variety of teaching strategies to enhance student success and the integration of technology.
School Improvement Facilitation Facilitates school improvement activities with school administration, staff, etc. for the purpose of implementing successful school improvement programs.
Curriculum Alignment Facilitates curriculum alignment activities, assists staff with implementation of adopted instructional materials, and researches intervention materials for the purpose of supplementing adopted materials.
Record Maintenance Maintains files and/or records for the purpose of ensuring compliance with relevant regulations/guidelines.
Related Duties Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Instructional Support Provides school-based curricular, instructional, and classroom-based assessment support for the purpose of resolving learning issues and/or implementing school improvement plans in conformance with established guidelines.
Research Researches a variety of topics (e.g. technology, strategies, best practices, assessment practices, school restructuring, etc.) for the purpose of keeping abreast of current trends, technology and tools related to educational improvement (i.e. OER).
Inquiry Response Responds to inquiries (e.g. teachers, principals, administrators, students, etc.) for the purpose of providing information and/or recommendations.
School Personnel Support Supports classroom teachers and other school personnel for the purpose of assisting them in the implementation of school improvement plans.
Training Delivery Trains teachers and administrators on best practices, teaching and learning strategies, school structure, etc. for the purpose of improving student success.
Materials Transport Transports materials and equipment for the purpose of ensuring the availability of items as needed.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Skills Required Skills are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: applying assessment techniques; operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.
Knowledge Required Knowledge is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: age appropriate activities; concepts of grammar and punctuation; school restructuring processes; performance-based assessments and scoring rubrics; and pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws.
Abilities Required Ability is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; often gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of varied types and/or purposes; and utilize a variety of types of job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate to significant.
Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: effectively communicating with persons of varied backgrounds and educational levels; setting priorities; working as part of a team; working with detailed information/data; traveling; and the flexibility to work some evenings and weekends.
Responsibility
Responsibilities include: working independently under broad organizational guidelines to achieve unit objectives; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; tracking budget expenditures. Utilization of resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to impact the organization's services.
Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 40% sitting, 20% walking, and 40% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
Education and Experience Requirements
Experience: Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.
Education (Minimum): High school diploma or equivalent.
Equivalency: BA or MA degree preferred, though may be waived in lieu of any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities of the position.
Experience developing and delivering professional learning to adults preferred. Experience collaborating with administrators and coaching teachers to improve systems and instructional practices preferred.
Knowledge of MTSS, high-quality inclusive practices, and inclusive instructional models preferred.
