What are the responsibilities and job description for the Airfield Maintenance Technician position at Capital Region Airport Authority?
GENERAL SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Maintenance Manager, performs a variety of maintenance activities to repair and maintain buildings, pavements, grounds, utilities, gates, and fencing on and around the airport. Additionally, operates and maintains equipment unique to the airport to keep runways, taxiways, and roads free of snow and ice.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Performs building repairs and maintenance activities, such as carpet/flooring repair, drywall installation and repair, painting, HVAC, plumbing, door repair and some minor electrical work.
2. Operates and maintains large, commercial snow removal equipment (some exceeding 26,000 lbs.) to keep runways, taxiways, ramps, roads, and other assigned areas free of snow and ice.
3. Operates and maintains a variety of equipment, such as large tractors, mowers, chainsaws, and related equipment to maintain Authority owned property on and around the airfield.
4. Performs routine maintenance on authority vehicles and equipment, such as oil and fluid checks and changes and greasing, and other maintenance tasks as needed.
5. Performs maintenance, repairs, and installation of fencing and gates on and around the airfield.
6. Operates equipment such as fork truck and skid steer loaders with various attachments. Operates paving equipment such as rollers, concrete saws, crack sealers and Tac Wagon for maintenance of airport pavements, as well as vehicles utilized in airport pavement painting.
7. Operates heavy equipment such as backhoes, bulldozers, rubber-tired front-end loaders, and dump trucks in connection with assigned tasks.
8. Maintains shop and storage areas and equipment in a clean, safe, and orderly fashion.
9. Operates powered hand tools to accomplish tasks.
10. Operates airport vehicles and equipment on the airfield and communicates via ground control radios with FAA control tower in accordance with applicable procedures/regulations.
11. Performs other minor mechanical repairs and maintenance as needed.
12. Performs other assignments and duties as directed.
EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Experience:
· Two years of experience in building trades (i.e., plumbing, HVAC, drywall, flooring repair, etc.)
· Five years of experience in the operation of gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment having a gross vehicle weight of at least 26,000 lbs.
· Experience in the operation of concrete saws, chainsaws, and other hand tools.
· Working knowledge of general construction practices used in pouring concrete, and repair/installation of asphalt and some masonry work or experience.
Other:
- Valid Driver’s License – State of Michigan preferred.
- Valid State of Michigan Class A CDL with tanker endorsement preferred
COMPENSATION
The Maintenance Technician is a non-exempt, union position with a pay range of approximately $23.07 - $29.46 per hour ($47,986 - $61,277 approximate annual), and a comprehensive benefit package offering:
