JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Welder – Commercial

CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt

DEPARTMENT: Fabrication

REPORTS TO: Commercial Weld Lead

SCHEDULE: Monday through Thursday, 5:00 AM to 3:30 PM

POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for welding per work order instructions various parts, assemblies and projects. Weld various types of metal to commercial job requirements and standards including: A36 mild steel between 14 gauge and ¼ inch material, MIG bare wire and dual-shield wire.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Set up weld equipment and correctly adjust weld parameters to requirements for each job.
2. Set up and operate various types of weld equipment on a variety of metals.
3. Read blue print and work order instructions to correctly produce parts.
4. Perform assigned work to time standards and quality expectations.
5. Accurately account for time and work completed via online computer data collection system.
6. Expedite priority work orders as required in cooperation with the Area Lead, Production Manager and Master Scheduler.
7. Provide technical assistance to junior weld staff in process set up or equipment operation where necessary.
8. Learn new, more advanced welding processes and techniques.
9. Problem solve for routine welding issues.
10. Safely operate a forklift to handle materials and completed work.
11. Initiate quality control documents for materials, processes and parts production issues.
12. Maintain assigned area equipment, report deficiencies to the maintenance team.
13. Maintain personal / common work areas to established housekeeping expectations.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must have good welding knowledge and demonstrate skills to commercial level.
2. Minimum 3 years weld experience in a manufacturing environment.
3. Working knowledge and understanding of the metal fabrication of parts and assemblies.
4. Competent with dimensional measuring and use of precision measurement tools.
5. Successfully pass welder candidate skill tests.
6. Experience with welding a variety of metals with different processes is highly desired.
7. Demonstrated competency in shop math.
8. Working knowledge of blueprints, weld symbols and basic shop drawing aids.
9. Ability to follow and apply work technical documents and Weld Procedures to perform commercial grade weld work with little assistance.
10. Basic skills with material/parts rigging and handling with an overhead crane.
11. Flexible and responsive with a strong teamwork orientation.
12. Good verbal and written communication skills.
13. Desire to learn new skills and improve technical knowledge.
14. Strong orientation toward quality, safety and continuous improvement.
15. Ability to work well under pressure and use initiative to meet team expectations.
16. Commitment to customer satisfaction.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Lift, carry, push and or pull 1 – 40 lbs frequently.
2. Squat/kneel, bend/stoop, twist/turn, grasp and reach overhead and outward frequently.
3. Sit, stand and walk for 1 – 10 hours per day.
4. Ability to work in a 55 – 88 degree Fahrenheit work environment.
5. Work in a fast-paced industrial environment wearing hearing protection, vision.protection, steel-toed shoes, hard hat, and protective welding gear.
6. Physical ability to operate a forklift.

7. Must be comfortable with material handling and operating an overhead crane.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $29.00 per hour
