Position Overview
SUMMARY (Basic Purpose of the Job)
Provides support to various lab sections through performance of specimen preparation for all incoming specimens. Performs clerical duties, computer system tasks, supply maintenance, and other duties as required. Performs procedures accurately and completely, following established CLIA, CAP, HIPAA, OSHA, and infection control practices.
Minimum Requirements
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: One year of related experience preferred.
Other Credentials
Knowledge and Skills: Strong interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills.

Reporting Relationships
Does this position formally supervise employees? No
If set to YES, then this position has the authority (delegated) to hire, terminate, discipline, promote or effectively recommend such to manager.
Essential Functions
Accurately receives a variety of specimen types and determines specimen integrity following specimen labeling and rejection criteria.
Understands collection requirements for special or referral testing.
Applies problem solving skills to communicate and resolve problems with specimen acceptability.
Correctly locates patient and test requisition in the laboratory information system to accession laboratory specimens.
Follows departmental procedure for downtime requisitions.
Completes the process for receiving specimens verifying test orders to labeled specimens.
Completes secondary label application on all specimens following specimen identification and labeling policy.
Process specimens including centrifugation. Aliquots specimens to produce required testing material. Produces accurately apply required labels. Ensures integrity and correctness of samples.
Maintains proficiency in reference lab test menu, specimen requirements, dispatch and transport, results reporting and billing.
Provides timely distribution of specimens to appropriate laboratory sections and communicate priority for analysis Performs audits and reconciliation in order to resolve any outstanding orders.
Thoroughly performs all clerical duties as needed, report mailing and inpatient report distribution.
Performs supply inventory, distribution, and storage and advises the supervisor of supply/equipment needs.
Performs appropriate LIS and HIS computer system application techniques to input and retrieve patient information, query test results, print reports, input orders, and input charges.
Responds to STAT specimens immediately.
Practices proper infection control techniques.
Keeps working area in a sanitary condition, and demonstrates safe work practices.
Answers incoming calls professionally and strives for customer satisfaction. Escalates problems effectively.
Performs other duties as assigned.
