What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ophthalmic Technician position at CAPITAL EYE CONSULTANTS?
Education/Experience: High school diploma, some college preferred.
Two to five years experience as an ophthalmic technician (certification not required, but being certified is a plus). Valid CPR certification.
Essential Skills: Demonstrated comprehension of ophthalmic assistant skills with basic understanding of optics, refraction and contact lenses. Ability to perform a comprehensive workup, including refraction. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Strong organization with attention to detail. Ability to work as a team member. Demonstrated computer literacy.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to: Obtain patient history. Explain testing being performed. Perform accurate and consistent documentation and measurement tasks, such as visual acuity, visual field testing, pupillary function tests, optic nerve scanning and pachymetry. Perform autoclaving and maintenance of instrument sterility. Maintain cleanliness of exam and procedure rooms. Maintain stock levels in rooms. Provide telephone support regarding ocular emergenies, prescription refills and patient care questions.
