Position Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Assistant Controller to join our finance team at a community-focused bank. This role will support the VP, Controller in managing day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, and compliance, while also helping to drive process improvements and support strategic initiatives. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator, technically proficient in accounting, a CPA or CPA candidate, and eager to grow within a collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounting Operations & Oversight
- Oversee daily accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable, reconciliations, and month-end close.
- Ensure accuracy and timeliness of financial data entry and reporting.
- Maintain and improve internal controls and accounting policies.
- Supervise the accounting setup for new programs and projects.
Financial Reporting & Compliance
- Assist in the review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Help with regulatory reporting.
- Support coordination of internal and external audits, and examinations.
Support Strategic Initiatives
- Collaborate with the VP, Controller on financial statement preparation, tax coordination, and audit interface.
- Assist in documenting team tasks and workflows in the bank's project management system.
- Contribute to financial reporting enhancements and automation initiatives.
Systems & Tools
- Work with accounting platforms such as FIS, Banktel, FloQast, and QuickBooks.
- Help troubleshoot and optimize accounting system setups and integrations.
Team Leadership & Development
- Provide guidance and support to junior accounting staff.
- Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
Specifications:
- Master's degree in accounting or finance.
- 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in banking or financial services.
- CPA or CPA candidate
- Strong understanding of GAAP, banking regulations, and internal controls.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
