Key Responsibilities
Ice Cream Production
- Produce a variety of ice cream flavors according to established recipes, procedures, and quality standards.
- Prepare traditional, seasonal, limited-time, and specialty ice cream flavors based on production schedules.
- Follow recipes accurately to ensure consistent flavor, texture, appearance, and product quality.
- Add mix-ins, sauces, ribbons, inclusions, and other ingredients at the appropriate stages of production.
- Monitor each batch throughout the production process and promptly report any quality concerns.
Ingredient Preparation
- Accurately measure, weigh, and prepare ingredients for each batch of ice cream.
- Organize ingredients before production to support an efficient workflow.
- Verify that ingredients are fresh, properly stored, and within their approved use-by dates.
- Follow appropriate procedures for handling allergens and preventing cross-contact.
Equipment Operation and Maintenance
- Safely operate ice cream machines, mixers, freezers, scales, and other production equipment.
- Follow all equipment operating procedures and manufacturer guidelines.
- Properly disassemble, wash, sanitize, and reassemble equipment after production.
- Report equipment issues, damage, or maintenance needs to management promptly.
Packaging and Labeling
- Transfer finished ice cream into appropriate containers, including tubs, pints, and other approved packaging.
- Portion products accurately and consistently.
- Label each product with the correct flavor, production date, batch information, and required allergen information.
- Ensure finished products are neatly packaged and stored at the proper temperature.
Quality Control
- Conduct routine quality checks during and after production.
- Evaluate ice cream for proper flavor, texture, consistency, appearance, and temperature.
- Ensure recipes and production procedures are followed exactly.
- Identify and report product inconsistencies, ingredient concerns, or production errors.
- Help maintain the high product standards expected by Capital City Sweets and its customers.
Inventory Management
- Monitor ice cream ingredients, flavorings, mix-ins, sauces, containers, labels, and other production supplies.
- Notify management when ingredients or packaging materials are running low.
- Assist with receiving, organizing, rotating, and properly storing production inventory.
- Follow first-in, first-out inventory practices to reduce waste and maintain freshness.
- Help track production quantities and ingredient usage as required.
Sanitation and Food Safety
- Maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized ice cream production area.
- Follow all Capital City Sweets sanitation procedures and applicable food safety regulations.
- Clean and sanitize work surfaces, utensils, equipment, sinks, floors, and storage areas.
- Follow proper handwashing, glove-use, temperature-control, and allergen-management procedures.
- Complete required cleaning and production checklists.
- Immediately report food safety concerns, spills, contamination risks, or unsafe conditions.
Production Organization
- Review daily and weekly production needs and prioritize batches accordingly.
- Prepare the production area before beginning each shift.
- Keep ingredients, tools, containers, and equipment organized throughout production.
- Communicate completed production, shortages, delays, and special needs to management.
- Help improve production efficiency while maintaining quality and safety standards.
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with management and other team members to meet production goals.
- Communicate clearly regarding inventory needs, equipment concerns, product quality, and production progress.
- Assist with training team members on approved ice cream production procedures when requested.
- Support a positive, respectful, and team-oriented workplace.
Education, Experience, and Qualifications
Previous Experience
Previous experience in ice cream production, dairy production, food manufacturing, a bakery, restaurant kitchen, or similar food-service environment is required. Training will be provided to the right candidate.
Attention to Detail
Must be able to accurately follow recipes, measure ingredients, document production information, and maintain consistent quality across every batch.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and move for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to bend, reach, push, pull, scoop, pour, and perform repetitive production tasks.
- Ability to work in refrigerated, freezer, and production environments.
- Ability to safely handle containers, ingredients, and equipment.
Availability and Flexibility
Must be willing to work a flexible production schedule, which may include mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, or additional hours during high-volume periods.
Food Safety Knowledge
A basic understanding of food safety, sanitation, temperature control, and allergen awareness is preferred. Employees must be willing to complete any required food safety training or certification.
Reliability
Must be punctual, dependable, and prepared to complete scheduled production responsibilities. Consistent attendance is essential to maintaining product availability and production schedules.
