About the Position:
The Health Operations Manager is a critical position for the functioning of the school, reporting to the Director of Operations. The Health Operations Manager is responsible for supporting school operations and compliance related to student and staff health, including documenting collection and status of student health records, medication administration, supporting the school nurse, coordinating health clinics and screenings, and more. The HOM must maintain confidentiality of documents and private student information. This job description provides an outline of the duties of the position, but the Director of Operations may assign additional responsibilities.
This is a 12-month position which is exempt and therefore not eligible for overtime pay under
the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
The responsibilities of the Health Operations Manager include:
Disease Mitigation & Response
•Review current guidance from DC Department of Health (DC Health) and the DC Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) regarding K12 school health recommendations and requirements
•Maintain and update Capital City policies for health-related outbreaks
•Monitor for and triage outbreaks of transmissible and communicable illnesses including RSV; Hand, Foot, & Mouth; Lice; etc.
•Coordinate internal and external communications to families and staff in response to health-related outbreaks
•Coordinate cleaning and sanitation as needed with our Janitorial and Facilities teams
•Support efforts to refine and implement the school’s COVID safety protocols for re-entry and recovery
•Conduct COVID testing, contact tracing, and communications as indicated by school policy (subject to change)
Student Health Records and Immunization Compliance
•Work with the Enrollment Team, Family Engagement Team and Office Managers to collect student health records in compliance with OSSE and DC Health
•Verify the status of student health certificate submission and follow up with families as needed
•Verify the status of student permission to participate in sports and follow up with coaches as needed
•Enter student health data into Capital City’s Student Information System
•Manage filing system for health & dental records in accordance with the DC Health and School Nurse’s process
•Participate in OSSE-sponsored health trainings and professional development
Medication Administration
•Maintain an active Medication Administration certification to provide basic first aid, as well as administer daily or short-term medication as needed, including diabetes care
•Ensure additional staff members complete Medication Administration Training (MAT) as needed to support daily school operations
•Administer medication in the School Nurse’s absence
•Monitor CCPCS fieldwork schedule and keep sign-out/sign-in records for student medication
•Attend fieldwork off-site in support of students who require diabetes care
Health Suite Support
•Along with the Director of Operations, serve as the point of contact for the Children's National Children’s School Services program and the Capital City assigned school nurse
•Maintain health supplies for the health suite and first aid kits throughout the building
•Manage inventory of student health products for distribution including period products, deodorant, contraceptives, etc
•Ensure staff have appropriate first aid and medical supplies for fieldwork
Health Clinics and Screenings
•Knowledge of community agencies to help students and their families.
•Coordinates vision, hearing, and orthopedic screening, sport participation screenings and third-party health assessments.
Health Trainings
•Coordinate and schedule CPR/First Aid trainings for staff regularly
•Provide health-related trainings, materials and support to staff as needed and related to school health operations
