Description:

The Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) is a USDA program that provides a monthly package of healthy groceries and complementary nutrition education to seniors at risk of hunger. CSFP currently operates in Washington, DC as Grocery Plus, in  Suburban MD as My Groceries To Go and in Northern Virginia as CSFP. In DC, it is combined with another USDA program, the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP), which provides benefits to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables at participating farmers markets. The Capital Area Food Bank is the executor of both programs for DC with oversight by DC Health. 

The Senior Hunger Strategies Partnership Coordinator is responsible for coordinating Grocery Plus distributions from the mobile unit at locations throughout DC as specified by management.  The goal of the mobile unit is to expand distribution of Grocery Plus to underserved gap areas. The Senior Hunger Strategies Partnership Coordinator is also responsible for promoting the mobile unit to the community and existing CSFP participants, enrolling qualifying seniors, and promoting other federal nutrition programs and other senior-centric programming. The position will ensure quality and consistency is maintained across all mobile distributions and ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and policies.

 

Essential Functions: 

Mobile Unit Distributions & Administration 50%

  • Supports and promotes the mission of CAFB and CSFP. 

  • Leads all CSFP mobile unit distributions, in compliance with the CSFP program

  • Assist with monthly reporting on participation and package distribution through the mobile unit.

  • Accounts for Grocery Plus packages that are distributed according to standing policies and food safety standards

  • Provides prompt and accurate customer services by arriving on time to assigned locations, interacting respectfully and professionally with program participants, and answering questions/concerns according to program guidelines.

  • Safely operates select equipment such as a pallet jack, carts.

  • Assists with additional direct deliveries as needed.
     

Senior Hunger Strategies General Administration 40%

  • Process applications and other CSFP documents as needed. 

  • Monitors SHS sites in all regions for compliance, reports findings and executes appropriate action plans

  • Serves as back-up for Door Dash deliveries, Walk In Center distributions, and Curbside Groceries distributions.

SHS Outreach 10%

  • Promote SHS programs to the community at scheduled events

  • Encourage enrollment in other federal nutrition programs and senior centric programming.

Miscellaneous

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Requirements:

  • At least an AA degree in related field or HS diploma with 3-5 years related experience

  • At least 2-3 years of customer service

  • Experience in a non-profit environment preferred

  • Must have a valid driver’s license

  • Ability and comfort with navigating the Washington metro area

Other Skills / Abilities: 

  • Exhibits aptitude in working with community and faith-based organizations

  • High comfort level working with diverse older adult populations

  • Ability to keep detailed records and give and follow clear directions

  • Presents excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to multi-task and work well with regular deadlines

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office systems, and internet resources

  • Exhibits creative approaches to meeting challenges

  • Familiarity of nutrition and food access issues is a plus

  • Ability to drive a large delivery van.

  • Ability to operate a pallet jack, and forklift.

  • Spanish fluency preferred.

Physical Demands / Working Conditions:

  • Physical activities involve sitting for up to 30% of the workday

  • Regularly lifts office supplies or food items up to 40 pounds.

  • Ability to travel to sites throughout the Washington metro area.

  • Working environment in office, warehouse, and community

  • Hours varies weekly based on distributions and other activities scheduled

 

 

Reporting:

  • This role reports to the Managing Director and Senior Manager of Operations.

Compensation:

The anticipated base salary for this position is $50,100 to $53,800. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable.
 

Schedule:

  • Regular work hours are Monday - Friday from 8am to 5pm.
