Position Overview:
Caperton’s Guns is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Shipping & Receiving Specialist to manage all aspects of incoming and outgoing firearms and inventory. This role is essential to maintaining accurate records, compliant firearm handling, and smooth store operations. The ideal candidate is organized, self-motivated, and comfortable working in a fast-paced retail firearms environment.
Key Responsibilities: Shipping & Receiving (Primary Duty)
- Receive all incoming firearms, ammunition, and accessories according to company procedures and federal/state laws.
- Inspect incoming shipments for accuracy, damage, and proper documentation.
- Log firearms into the A&D book and internal inventory system with 100% accuracy.
- Prepare outgoing firearm shipments for customers, transfers, and distributors.
- Package firearms and products safely and securely for shipment.
- Coordinate with carriers (UPS, FedEx, USPS, etc.) and ensure all shipping regulations are followed.
- Maintain an organized, secure storage area for incoming/outgoing firearms.
Inventory & Documentation
- Verify product quantities against purchase orders.
- Maintain clean, accurate records for compliance audits.
- Tag and stock firearms and inventory once processed.
- Assist in inventory control tasks as needed.
Photography & Online Listings (As Needed)
- Photograph new inventory (firearms, accessories, gear) for online listings.
- Ensure images are clean, clear, and professional.
- Assist with listing prep such as item descriptions or SKU labeling.
Retail Store Support (As Needed)
- Assist customers on the sales floor when required.
- Support staff with general store duties (restocking, cleaning, organizing).
- Provide excellent customer service and uphold Caperton's brand values.
Qualifications:
- Prior experience in firearms handling, retail firearms, or shipping/receiving preferred.
- Strong understanding of ATF regulations or willingness to learn.
- Attention to detail and high accuracy with documentation.
- Ability to lift boxes up to 50 lbs.
- Basic photography skills (or willingness to learn).
- Ability to work well independently and within a team.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Must be legally able to possess firearms.
