What are the responsibilities and job description for the Upper School History and Social Science Teacher position at Cape Henry Collegiate?
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Cape Henry Collegiate's History and Social Science Department invites dynamic, forward-thinking educators to apply for a full-time Upper School History and Social Science teaching position beginning in August 2026. We seek a passionate, student-centered teacher with a strong background in International Relations, U.S. Government and/or Modern World History.
At Cape Henry, we are committed to graduating independent thinkers and globally aware citizens, and the History and Social Science Department sits at the center of that work. The ideal candidate brings not only deep content knowledge, ideally supported by a graduate degree in history, international relations, or a related field, but also the energy, creativity, and flexibility to bring that content to life in ways that resonate with curious, engaged young people. We are looking for an educator who designs learning experiences that are as dynamic as the world our students are preparing to enter.
Our program features a diverse array of course options in World History, U.S. History, and U.S. Government, and other related fields. The ideal candidate will be equally at home in inquiry-driven discussion, collaborative projects, and innovative approaches that reflect multiple perspectives and experiences. Our mission includes a clearly stated commitment to building a diverse and inclusive community, one where ideas can be debated and discussed in an open and constructive manner, and where every member of our community feels welcome and has the opportunity to add their voice.
Cape Henry's core values of community, opportunity, scholarship, and integrity are not just words on a wall. They are the foundation of how we teach, how we relate to students, and how we show up for one another every day. We are looking for a colleague who embodies these values and who understands that great teaching happens in relationships, not just in curriculum.
Beyond the classroom, this faculty member will serve as an advisor and is encouraged to contribute to the broader life of the school through coaching or sponsoring extracurricular programs. Cape Henry also offers faculty the opportunity to participate in and lead domestic and international travel programs through our extensive global education initiative, a distinctive way to put our mission of graduating globally aware citizens into practice in the world itself.
If you are an educator who is energized by students, who cares deeply about politics, history, and world affairs, and who wants to work in a school that challenges and supports both its students and its faculty, we would love to hear from you.
