General Responsibilities
Cape Henry Collegiate, a leading independent, coeducational day school in Virginia Beach, VA is seeking an innovative and experienced Physical Education teacher who will work mostly with Lower School, but also with Middle students. Students are used to working in a creative and vibrant environment and are fully engaged by teachers who know their students well and plan activities accordingly.
Position Duties (including, but are not limited to)
Education And Experience
A minimum of three years teaching experience is preferred.
BA/BS from an accredited college or university in physical education, health education, or exercise and sports science is required.
Physical Requirements
Significant standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential tasks.
Special Requirements
Possession of a valid driver’s license.

- Promoting healthy lifestyles and teaching students the benefit of being physically active
- Fostering an appreciation for fitness and wellness, understanding the impact these have on students’ social and emotional development
- Assisting students with social/emotional learning support and guiding them to make good decisions with emphasis on treating all students with dignity and respect
- Desiring to help students become well-rounded individuals who can respond positively to life’s challenges
- Ensuring physical education classes are positive, accessible and inclusive for all students
- Organizing instruction into whole group, small group and one-on-one instruction
- Differentiating to meet a variety of needs and encouraging each child to reach his or her potential
- Being technologically proficient and able to use a variety of applications and tools to enhance students’ physical education experience, engagement and learning outcomes
- Having an awareness of 21st Century global competencies and knowledge of how to weave those life skills through the curriculum (teamwork, collaboration, problem solving, creativity, communication and critical thinking)
- Recognizing the importance of diversity and inclusion as tenets of our school mission statement and strategic plan, and desiring to be purposeful in planning curriculum which values and supports those tenets
- Ensuring supervision and safety of children at all times of the day including arrival, recess, lunchtime and dismissal as well as during instructional times
- Planning and preparing materials for lessons and ensuring instructional spaces are safe, positive, attractive and clean
- Maintaining professional relationships with all members of the school community
- Having excellent written and oral communication skills
