General Description: The Assistant Chief Custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and basic mechanical operation of a building, including monitoring and operating heating/cooling systems such as boilers. This role combines janitorial duties/grounds work with light maintenance and heating/cooling system oversight.
Required Qualifications: High school diploma or general education degree (GED). One (1) year related experience and/or training preferred. Valid state driver's license.
- Ability to read basic operating instructions and write reports.
- Demonstrate aptitude for successful fulfillment of assigned responsibilities.
- Demonstrate aptitude to plan total performance responsibilities with minimal supervision from chief custodian and/or principal of building.
- Ability to work with teachers, children, and other employees.

Duties
- Primary responsibility is operation, cleaning, and routine maintenance of HVAC systems, including hot water heater and pumps. light carpentry, general maintenance.
- Keeps assigned areas in buildings and on premises clean at all times.
- Uses custodial cleaning equipment and supplies in a manner prescribed by the manufacturer and the immediate supervisor of the job assignment.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 60 pounds. Move furniture or equipment, supplies, and other materials as directed by school personnel. This work requires personal physical strength. Lifting of heavy cartons is necessary in this position.
- Must be able to do periodic checks on HVAC equipment on weekends, evenings, and other times when school is not in session.
- Give attention to all parts of areas assigned including windows, blinds, light fixtures, woodwork, floors, and furniture. Attention ranges from daily cleaning to periods of time extending over several weeks according to supervisor of the job assignment.
- Must have experience in operating tractors and riding mowers, and perform such yard keeping chores as grass cutting and tree trimming as necessary to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition. Also, be able to line Athletic Fields.
- Shovels snow from walks, steps, and driveways as needed/ snow removal also snow plowing
- Gives attention to heat and ventilation equipment in assigned areas, including filters, according to manufacturer's printed instructions.
- Makes minor repairs as needed. This work requires a working knowledge of woodworking tools as well as other tools required to reglaze doors and windows. A demonstrated aptitude for painting is also included as a performance responsibility. Must be able and willing to climb ladders up to a height of 30 feet and to perform necessary repair work and/or painting at maximum ladder height.
- Performs other custodian duties as assigned.
- Must be available on call for emergency situations.
- Must have knowledge or be willing to learn to operate digitally controlled equipment.

Physical Demands
- Continuous moderate effort or physical activity required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to frequently climb, crawl, and kneel. Frequently carry or move objects more than 25 pounds and occasionally move objects of up to 50 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to sit.
- The employee will regularly work indoors and occasionally work outdoors, possibly in adverse weather conditions, in outdoor duties as assigned.
