Performs basic patient care. Observes and reports abnormal occurrences or changes inpatient condition. Cleans, stocks and maintains supplies for the patient unit. Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned. Performs designated NAII procedures.
Assists in the admission of patients to the unit to include orientation to the unit, hospital routine and patient care equipment. Responds to needs of patients with direct assistance when able or by reporting patient need to the appropriate person. Assists with implementation of nursing plan of care by carrying out delegated patient care tasks. Assists in maintaining patient safety to include the proper use of equipment and supplies. Access to medication/supply room to retrieve patient care items for patient care use as applicable per unit. Maintains a well-stocked, clean patient environment.
Actively participates in cost containment and assists in accurate charging for patient services. Participates in educational and Performance Improvement activities. Performs additional skills, which may include, but are not limited to, phlebotomy, 12 lead EKG, Waived lab testing per unit competency. Actively demonstrates responsibility concerning customer satisfaction, patient throughput and hospital functional capacity through compliance with the Hospital Innovation Project (HIP), if applicable.
Qualifications:
The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:
Education and Formal Training: High school graduate or equivalent with Nursing Assistant certification. Current registration with North Carolina Board of Nursing as NAII and with the Division of Facility Services as NAI.
Work Experience: Experience as NAI preferred.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities required: Excellent guest relations skills. Verbal and written skills required. Ability to read English. Ability to accept supervision from a multidisciplinary team. Flexible in approach to work tasks and schedules. Able to grasp new skills and techniques. Has basic knowledge of age-specific considerations for patients served. Has basic computer skills.
Physical Requirements: Ability to work variable shifts. Ability to turn and lift patients. Much standing, walking, bending and lifting. Possess visual and auditory acuity for observing patients. Position involves exposure to blood and body secretions and may involve skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material.
