ENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Reference Librarian provides general reference assistance in a busy library that includes a computer lab. Assistance is provided to library users in person, over the telephone, or via email. The Reference Librarian may provide information skills instruction to selected classes and participate in collection development. This is a part-time position: 10 hours per week, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 3:00-8:00 pm when classes are in session (Academic Year and Summer Sessions) with the occasional opportunity for additional hours as substitute on weekends.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
- Staff the library reference desk and provide general reference assistance and instruction to students, faculty, and staff as well as community patrons using print, multimedia, and digital resources.
- Answer reference questions over chat, email, and phone.
- Provide reference consultations in person and remotely using Zoom.
- Aid users in the computer lab with basic computer use.
- Staff the circulation desk when circulation assistant is shelving, engaged in projects and during breaks.
- Provide information and referral to additional resources on the CCCC campus.
- Participate in collection development.
- Participate in assessment of library services and library staff meetings.
- Perform related duties as needed.
Job Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- MLS degree from an ALA accredited library school.
- Library reference experience.
- Broad understanding of academic subjects and domains.
- Excellent working knowledge of print and online academic information resources, library networks, including online catalogs and online databases.
- Excellent technology skills, including facility with Microsoft Office applications.
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Ability to work successfully with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff in a busy, multicultural environment.
- Unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.
ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in preparing and delivering information literacy instruction.
- Academic library experience.
- Experience using Koha and Zoom.

Additional Information:
COMPENSATION: Anticipated starting pay rate $36.55/hour (Interval 1) for 10 hours/week when classes are running (Fall and Spring semesters and Summer Sessions). Part-time, non-benefited MCCC Unit position.
