Job Overview
We are seeking an energetic and motivated Barista Team Leader to inspire and lead our dynamic coffee shop team. In this pivotal role, you will ensure high standards of customer service, product quality, safety, cleanliness, and team performance. In addition to supporting daily café operations, this position serves as a workplace mentor and supervisor for individuals participating in vocational services through Capabilities, including OPWDD services, ACCES-VR programs, vocational assessments, work experiences, and employment-related services. The Barista Team Leader supports ETCH’s mission as a social enterprise by helping provide a structured, supportive, and inclusive work environment that promotes skill development, work readiness, and community integration for participants receiving vocational services.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervise, motivate, and support café team members to always ensure exceptional customer service.
- Lead by example by providing customers with friendly, efficient, knowledgeable, and welcoming experience.
- Assist with training, coaching, and developing new and existing team members in café procedures, customer service expectations, product quality, and workplace standards.
- Provide direct supervision, coaching, mentoring, and workplace support to individuals participating in vocational assessments, work experiences, and employment-related services at ETCH
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Promote understanding of ETCH’s role as a social enterprise that supports vocational services, employment opportunities, and community integration for individuals served by Capabilities.
- Handle customer inquiries, feedback, and complaints professionally, promptly, and in alignment with organizational expectations.
- Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, sanitation, health, and safety requirements.
- Oversee shift operations, including opening and closing procedures, cash handling, point-of-sale processes, inventory control, and daily workflow.
- Communicate effectively with the Manager regarding team performance, participant support needs, customer concerns, safety issues, and operational priorities
Requirements
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- Successful completion of OPWDD background checks
- CPR/First Aid
- Strong communication skills/customer service skills
- Ability to lead, inspire and motivate a diverse team
- Understanding of, or willingness to learn about OPWDD services, ACCES-VR programs, vocational assessments and supported employment services
Hours
- Typical hours for this position are 37.5 hours a week during operational hours.
- Flexible availability, including weekends and holidays, based on operational needs.
Physical Demands
- This position may require standing for extended periods, bending, reaching, walking, carrying items, operating café equipment, and performing routine cleaning and stocking tasks in a food service environment.
- Must be able to move up to 50lbs.
Environmental Factors
- This position is primarily based in a café environment with climate control and light to moderate noise. The role may also involve exposure to hot liquids, steam, heated equipment and surfaces, sharp utensils, cleaning and sanitizing chemicals, wet or slippery floors, food allergens, airborne coffee grounds or dust, temperature changes when accessing storage or receiving areas, frequent interruptions, customer-facing activity, and periods of increased noise and pace during peak service times.
Education
Associate’s Degree in Human Services or a related field (required)
AND
Previous experience working with individuals with disabilities or barriers to employment. (preferred) Previous experience in a supervisory or leadership role, preferably in food service, retail, hospitality, vocational services, or workforce development. (preferred)
