About the position
An emergency vehicle Upfitter/Installer at CAP Fleet upfitters is responsible for modifying brand new vehicles into police and emergency vehicles. This role involves installing various equipment, including wiring harnesses, controllers, and light bars, lights, cargo boxes, components tray, center consoles, radar systems, push bumpers, camera systems, window barriers, prisoner seats and prisoner partitions, and other components required with the build specifications, while ensuring quality workmanship in a fast-paced environment. The position requires a strong mechanical and electrical background, with a focus on customer satisfaction and innovative solutions.
Responsibilities
· Lead a team of 3-5 upfitter Techs to achieve weekly goals and meet QC requirements.
· Hold daily meetings with your team to outline the day’s work.
- Install all equipment necessary to modify brand-new vehicles into police and emergency vehicles.
- Route and install wire harnesses, controllers, partitions, light bars, push bumpers, power supplies, component trays, consoles and other components in accordance with company standards.
- Disassemble and reassemble factory vehicles in accordance with company standards and according to build specifications.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics and be able to program according to specifications.
- Must have extensive knowledge with brands such as Whelen, Havis, Setina, Motorola, Proguard, Jotto, Fed signal, Troy, Plastix plus, Axon, Go rhino and other upfitter manufacturers.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute ideas for efficiency and quality improvements, including updating QuickBase and filling out the daily production visual board.
- Work in a team environment, adhering to safety protocols and high-quality standards.
- Attend meetings as required.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years’ Experience (preferred) working with automotive electrical systems.
- Minimum 5 years’ Experience (preferred) working as a police upfitter Technician.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid TX driver's license.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on quality workmanship.
- Positive attitude and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Pass extensive background check
Nice-to-haves
- Valid mechanic's license or ASE Automotive Technician certification.
- EVT Emergency Vehicle Technician certification.
