This position is limited to Veterans, Gold Star family members and Active-duty spouses desiring to serve a two-year paid Congressional Fellowship as part of the House of Representatives. Selected Fellows will work directly for a Member of Congress or other House officer as part of an office team.

Detail oriented; excellent organization skills; strong computer skills; ability to complete projects within timelines and under minimal supervision. Ability to work well under pressure and maintain a professional and courteous work disposition; ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment in handling sensitive information; ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. High School Diploma required.  Effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary.

GOLD STAR 
applicants require a Resume and one of the following:

  • For members who died on active duty: DD-1300 or DD-2064, accompanied by a Line of Duty Determination; OR
  • For members who died of service-connected disability: Last DD-214 issued to the veteran, and VA eligibility letter.
  • Proof of dependency on the Veteran: DD-1172 (PAGE 2); OR
  • Proof of relationship (obituary, birth certificate, etc…) to the Veteran.

ACTIVE-DUTY SPOUSES must submit a Resume and a copy of the FRONT and BACK of Dependent ID card

Responsibilities:

The Green & Gold Congressional Aide Program (G&G CAP) was established to create employment opportunities for Veterans, Gold Star families, and Active-Duty spouses within the U.S. House of Representatives. These positions provide Aides with the experience and exposure necessary to broaden their career opportunities.

This position is assigned within a House Officer and will serve in Washington, DC. These are two-year, paid, full-time employment opportunities.

This position supports emergency management programs with the Office of the Sergeant at Arms Emergency Management Division. This role supports emergency planning, preparedness, and operations programs and projects across the Capitol Campus.

This position is part of the Emergency Management Division, Office of the Sergeant at Arms (SAA), U.S. House of Representatives (House). The Division of Emergency Management is responsible for providing and implementing a comprehensive and professional emergency planning, preparedness, and operations program for the U.S. House of Representatives, ensuring the continuity of the House and the safety of its members, staff, employees, and visitors during emergencies.

Typical duties include, but are not necessarily limited to:

  • Program Development & Implementation: Provides direct support to the development, readiness, and execution of the House Life Safety and Emergency Preparedness Program.
  • Emergency Planning, Coordination, and Reporting: Develops/reviews/edits written material, including planning documents, procedures, briefing slides, reference documents, white papers, and other documentation, as needed.
  • Customer Service & Support: Responds to requests for emergency equipment, resource allocation, and inventory assistance, providing responsive and professional customer service.
  • Administrative & Team Support: Supports the Preparedness Team with office-related tasks, including management of the SAA EMD inbox, WebEOC data entry, and responding to inquiries from House staff and Office Emergency Coordinators.
  • Outreach & Engagement: Assists in preparedness outreach by developing flyers and outreach material, attending office hours, and staffing the EMD table during service fairs and events.
  • Training Data & Records Management: Supports data analysis, recordkeeping, and reporting related to emergency preparedness programs (i.e., trainings, outreach, readiness, life safety, emergency planning, and protective actions).
  • Continuity & Special Projects Support: Contributes to the development and implementation of House life safety and continuity programs, including assistance with exercises, special events, and related projects.
  • Operations Center Support: Maintains proficiency in operating equipment and performing functions within the House Operations Center, in accordance with EMD standards and guidelines.
  • Incident & Event Support: Provides support during operations center activations, special events, and other emergency-related activities as required.
    Additional duties as assigned.
  • Performs other duties and special projects, as assigned.

NO WAIVERS WILL BE GRANTED.  IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE YOU MUST BE A VETERAN, GOLD STAR FAMILY MEMBER, OR ACTIVE-DUTY SPOUSE AND MEET ALL THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS. 

Veterans:

  • Honorably discharged;
  • Released from active duty within the last six years
  • Pay grades at or below E-5/O-3/W-2
    • Veterans promoted to the pay grades of E-6/O-4/W-3 WITHIN 6-MONTHS OF SEPARATION from active duty may be eligible if they meet ALL other requirements.
  • Veterans who are in receipt of a 20-year or Temporary Early Retirement Authority (TERA) retirement are not eligible for the program.

Gold Star Families: 

  • A surviving spouse, child/step-child, parent/step-parent, or sibling/step-sibling of a veteran who died:
    • In the line of duty while serving in the Armed Forces; or
    • from a service-connected disability.

Active-Duty Spouses: 

  • Must be the spouse of an Active-Duty service member. Active-Duty service members work for the military full-time and are subject to permanent change of station or permanent change of assignment orders upon completion of each tour of duty.
    • Those subject to Title X mobilization are not eligible

Salary : $56,000
