South Umpqua School District has an opening at Canyonville School for an Instructional Assistant.
Position Responsibilities

Provide small-group and one-on-one reading interventions under the direction of a licensed teacher, focusing on foundational skills such as letter-sound correspondence, decoding, fluency, and high-frequency words.

Deliver structured, evidence-based reading lessons and routines, including phonemic awareness activities, echo and repeated reading, and word mapping.

Support classroom instruction during the core reading block by helping students stay engaged, offering reteaching, and guiding independent or center-based literacy tasks.

Manage literacy centers such as fluency practice, word work, writing, or vocabulary stations to allow teachers to focus on targeted instruction.

Administer progress-monitoring assessments and accurately document student performance, attendance, and observations for review with the Title I teacher.

Prepare instructional materials for reading interventions, including organizing decodable texts, manipulatives, flashcards, and other resources.
Minimum Qualifications
-
Paraprofessionals must have at least an associate’s degree or the equivalent. Passing the required placement test will also meet this qualification. The placement test is administered at Umpqua Community College, and additional information is available through the South Umpqua School District Personnel Office.

Ability to work independently and follow written and oral directions.

Demonstrated patience, compassion, and understanding when working with students.

Ability to build and maintain respectful, positive relationships with students.
Assignment is 5.5 hours per day / 5 days per week/10-month employee
Salary Range: $17.98-$25.45 depending on experience
