Canyon Regional Water Authority (CRWA)is a subdivision of the State of Texas created by the Texas Legislature in 1989. It is a partnership of water-supply corporations, cities, and districts responsible for acquiring, treating, and transporting potable water to communities from San Antonio to San Marcos in south-central Texas. CRWA is mandated with the duty to develop, treat and deliver potable water to its member entities in accordance with the Safe Drinking Water Act and State of Texas requirements, while encouraging water conservation. CRWA’s operations include surface-water diversions, groundwater pumping from aquifers, surface
water and groundwater treatment, treated water storage, and treated water transmission to its member entities. CRWA has substantial surface water and groundwater resources and is also a member of the Texas Rural Water Association and American Water Works Association.
Primary Responsibilities
The Surface Water Operator 2 position is a progressive experience position responsible for monitoring equipment, operating
equipment, and recording data in compliance with regulatory agency guidelines.
- Analyzes and monitors potable water production and treatment.
- Operates and maintains process equipment at water treatment facilities.
- Checks engines, generators, pumps, settling tanks, filters, chemical feed systems, and other equipment.
- Records instrumentation readings.
- Monitors and performs housekeeping duties to ensure a safe working environment.
- Performs basic process control measurements.
- Participates in the troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance of various equipment including pumps, piping and valves.
- Performs basic-level mathematical computations.
- Understands and performs emergency response procedures as directed.
- Establishes and maintains effective public and working relationships.
- Participates in special projects as directed.
- Understands and operates cell phones, iPads, and the internal SCADA system (as directed).
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Obtain a Class C Texas Surface Water Treatment License within one year of hire.
- Able to use Microsoft Word and Excel software and perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Valid Class “C” Texas Driver’s License.
- Strong work ethic.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
Physical requirements include lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds occasionally; pushing a maximum force of 55 pounds. Subject to standing, sitting, walking, climbing, bending, crawling, squatting, kneeling, and working in cramped and strained positions for
extended periods of time to perform job duties. Working conditions can include outside with exposure to inclement weather; water; mechanical, electrical, chemical and confined space hazards; strong odors; noise; excavations; and local wildlife. Must use personal protective equipment. Operates a CRWA vehicle when required.
Starting Salary Range
Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
