Underground Estimators support our civil and natural gas construction operations by preparing complete and competitive underground utility construction estimates. Projects include new construction and replacement work and range from small to large size and complexity.

What You'll Do

• Review proposals, specifications, drawings, attend pre-bid meetings, etc. to determine scope of work and required contents of the estimate
• Analyze and incorporate historical data from past projects, subcontracts, productivity reports, etc. into unit and man-hour figures to prepare accurate time, cost, and labor estimates for projects
• Review final estimate packages with manager/operations personnel prior to formal quotation, to ensure accuracy and completeness
• Follow awarded contracts, including estimating extra work items, change orders, credits; procurement of material, etc
• Maintain files of working documents as back-up for estimate figures
• Participate in bid strategy and presentation meetings as requested
• Facilitate contract handoff to Operations; job cost tracking set-up, development of revenue recognition units and productivity analysis
• Other duties as requested by leadership

What You'll Have

• Knowledge and experience in estimating natural gas, water, and other underground utility projects with strong financial and numerical analysis skills
• Ability to use computer software, including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and computerized cost data and systems
• Solid communication skills to prepare estimates, interact with customers, and support ops
• Ability to negotiate key business strategies or significant agreements favorable to the Company, reconciling differences to arrive at acceptable solutions

Work Environment

• Work is performed in a 90% office and 10% field construction sites
• Flexibility to work various schedules and stay late when necessary, with little or no notice
• Must be able to read documents, use a computer, communicate verbally and in writing
• Mobility required within an office, warehouse, and construction site environments
• Ability to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds

Legal Stuff

• Pass pre-employment, random, post-accident, and reasonable suspicion drug screens
• Provide valid US work authorization documents for E-Verify
• Satisfactory results of pre-employment background check results
• Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
