What are the responsibilities and job description for the Commercial HVAC Service Technician position at Canyon Creek Mechanical Corporation?
Commercial HVAC Service Technician
Canyon Creek Mechanical Corp. | Idaho Falls, Idaho
$30–$40/hour DOE | Full-time | Hourly, not flat-rate or commission
Commercial HVAC. Real diagnostics. A team that understands the trade.
Canyon Creek Mechanical is a locally owned commercial service company serving Eastern Idaho. We specialize in HVAC, refrigeration, and commercial restaurant equipment.
We're looking for a Commercial HVAC Service Technician with solid field experience who enjoys troubleshooting, takes pride in their work, and wants to keep getting better at the trade.
This is not a sales position disguised as a service job. Your success comes from diagnosing problems accurately, repairing equipment correctly, communicating honestly with customers, and standing behind your work.
We're a small technical team with direct access to leadership who understand the work firsthand. We provide the resources to do the job correctly: well-equipped service vehicles, specialized tools, realistic dispatching, technical support, and training. We value input from our technicians and work together to solve problems and improve how we do the work.
We pay hourly so technicians can focus on getting the diagnosis and repair right rather than being incentivized to rush through a job.
The Work
This is 100% commercial HVAC service, including:
- Diagnose, maintain, and repair commercial HVAC systems
- Troubleshoot rooftop units and commercial packaged equipment
- Service split systems and heat pumps
- Work with makeup-air and exhaust systems
- Troubleshoot electrical components, controls, motors, sensors, and related systems
- Read wiring diagrams, use meters, and systematically isolate faults
- Identify the underlying cause of equipment problems rather than simply replacing components
- Perform equipment maintenance and repairs with an emphasis on reliability and first-time fixes
- Communicate equipment condition and repair options clearly with customers
- Document work thoroughly using our digital field-service software, including clear notes and photographs
- Maintain an organized and properly stocked company service vehicle
- Share knowledge and help maintain consistent technical standards across the team
The work is varied, and unfamiliar problems are part of the job. You won't be expected to know everything; we're more interested in how you approach a problem than whether you've seen every system before.
What You'll Bring
Experience & credentials:
- Commercial HVAC service experience; 5 years preferred
- Strong electrical troubleshooting and mechanical reasoning
- EPA 608 certification
- Idaho HVAC Apprentice registration or higher; Journeyman strongly preferred
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record
You'll probably fit well here if you:
- Take pride in getting the diagnosis and repair right
- Communicate clearly and professionally with customers and coworkers
- Are dependable and punctual
- Enjoy learning new equipment, controls, and technology
- Are comfortable working independently while contributing to a small technical team
Five years of experience is preferred, but it is not the only measure we use. We will consider technicians with less experience when their actual technical exposure and demonstrated ability are a strong fit.
