Juvenile Probation Officer Juvenile Probation | Caldwell, ID | Full Time | From $22.50 to $22.50 per hour Job Description Starting hourly wage: $22.50 Job Summary Conduct interviews to prepare detailed social history reports, counsel and guide juvenile offenders to monitor adherence to court orders. Key Responsibilities: · Monitor a caseload of juvenile offenders o Monitor a caseload of diversion and low to moderate caseload o Conduct risk/need classification of youth o Regularly meet with youth and their families in the community to verify compliance, including evening and weekend contacts o Communicate with parents, schools, providers, and law enforcement to verify compliance o Document all communications in the Case Management Services (CMS) database per department policy o Monitor restitution orders and fees o Conduct urinalysis tests or make referrals to appropriate drug testing agencies o Initiate formal probation violations when required · Write detailed presentence/social history reports o Conduct interviews with youth and parents, either in the office or home, to gather specific information related to the youth, charges, and overall home environment o Collect collateral information from providers, schools, Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, and any other relevant sources o Verify prior charges and involvement in the juvenile justice system o Dictate information in a designated report format to be typed by administrative staff o Produce clear and concise reports that include case plans aimed are reducing risk and addressing identified needs · Refer youth to appropriate mental health, substance abuse services o Refer youth and families for appropriate mental health and substance abuse assessments while connecting them to suitable services to address the youth's risks and needs o Communicate regularly with providers to assess progress, challenges, and need for further referrals and/or services o Apply for available funding to cover service costs when the family resources, insurance or Medicaid are not options · Appear in Court Hearings o Appear in court hearings for assigned cases to testify and or provide case information and offer recommendations o Take detailed notes of court hearings o Adhere to courtroom protocols · Other Duties o Requires a flexible schedule, including non-traditional work hours o Adhere to a drug free workplace o Performs all work duties and activities following County policies, procedures, and safety practices o Performs other duties as assigned Qualifications Skills and Abilities · Knowledge of human and criminal behaviors, probation best practices and interviewing and investigation techniques · Knowledge of Juvenile Corrections Act, Balanced Approach and Rules · Familiarity with community resources and programs · Skills to analyze facts and evidence and draw logical and objective conclusions · Ability to establish effective working relationships with offenders, families, service providers, and legal professionals · Capable of making sound and reasonable decisions in accordance with laws, codes, rules, regulations, and established procedures · Ability to perform multiple tasks, including handling interruptions, and return to and complete tasks in a timely manner · Ability to follow oral and written instructions · Ability to readily adapt to changing work situations and assignments · Ability to learn and follow court practices and procedures · Ability to maintain confidentiality · Ability to operate specialized equipment, including a computer, and applications appropriate to assigned duties Special Qualifications · Must become POST certified within the first six months of employment · Must successfully complete a background investigation · Must possess an Idaho Driver’s license Education and Experience · Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, social science, social work, psychology or related field · Experience in relevant roles or industry a plus Essential Physical Abilities · Clear speech with or without an accommodation, to effectively convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly and/or quickly · Sufficient clarity of hearing with or without reasonable accommodation to enable the employee to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information · Visual acuity, with or without an accommodation, to read instructions, review and organize documents · Requires sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, which permits the employee to function in a general office environment to accomplish tasks · Ability to lift 25lbs Disclaimer: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the primary job responsibilities satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodation. DISQUALIFIERS FOR EMPLOYMENT Juvenile Probation Officers Listed below are a number of behaviors which may disqualify an applicant from consideration for employment. Involvement with Illegal Drugs Automatic disqualification for use of marijuana/THC, regardless of its form, within the last one (1) year. This includes the use of cannabis, hashish, hash oil, and THC in both synthetic and natural forms. Automatic disqualification for use of any other illegal drug in the past three (3) years. Unlawful prescription drug use in the past three (3) years. Any illegal intravenous drug use. Manufacturing, selling, offering to sell, distribution or transporting for sale any illegal drugs within the past three (3) years. All drug use and involvement will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Driving Record Automatic disqualification for misdemeanor DUI conviction in the past two (2) years or two (2) or more in the past five (5) years. Driving history showing a continuing pattern of poor decision-making will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Criminal Record Automatic disqualification for a conviction of any felony crime unless under eighteen (18) and ten (10) or more years prior to application submittal. Automatic disqualification for conviction of misdemeanor sex crime or crime of deceit within five (5) years of application submittal. Any misdemeanor conviction for crimes involving domestic battery or violence, child abuse, stalking, or voyeurism. All misdemeanor convictions will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
