What are the responsibilities and job description for the Construction Assistant Project Manager position at Canyon Contracting?
POSITION SUMMARY
This position supports construction project management services including client interaction, management and control of project resources (internal and external), project documentation, deliverables, scheduling and contract administration. Understands the basic techniques and methods of project management, including planning and control methods. Assists in the implementation of quality services throughout the project cycle.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist the PM with scheduling and attends pre-job meetings with the Superintendent, client representative(s), subcontractors, and suppliers as necessary.
- Attend all required project meetings, both internal and external.
- Review, understand, and assist the PM with ensuring adherence to all aspects regarding contract
- Work with Project Managers to create, monitor and complete the submittal process.
- Prepare the Job Start up packages.
- Attend site visits with Project Managers.
- Provide all required documentation to satisfy the contract and client requirements
- Assist the PM, Superintendent and Foremen to plan, organize and direct activities for all projects.
- Assist the PM with the development, tracking and management of RFI’s for all projects.
- Assist the PM with the procurement, monitoring, resolution and closing of submittals for all projects.
- Assist the PM, as needed, with the development, maintenance and evaluation of all project production schedules.
- Assist in creating and enforcing a site-specific safety/emergency plan for assigned projects in collaboration with Project Managers, Superintendents and/or Foreman.
- Proactively develop relationships with the subcontractor community.
- Assist the PM in whatever capacity necessary to help ensure that every project is delivered with maximum customer satisfaction.
- Assist the PM, as required, to ensure that the project quality control plan is in effect and followed.
- Assist the PM to complete every project’s punch list to the customer’s satisfaction.
- Assist with Drawing /Document Control and Job Close out documentation.
- Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
- Build and develop trusting relationships with current customers and seek to identify opportunities to grow our customer base and build positive relationships.
- Create, monitor and track Miss Utility tickets for projects.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Industry related BS degree preferred, or one to two years Project Management experience and /or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Proven ability to plan and organize
- Experience multi-tasking
- OSHA 30-hour certification, preferred.
- Experience with Bluebeam and CADD software preferred

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. Must be able to stand, bend, climb and kneel for prolonged periods of time. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Must be able to work safely in a variety of weather conditions and terrains. Position will require that employee have manual dexterity, good sense of balance and excellent hand-eye coordination. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites.
