Canvas is seeking an Instrumentation Technician to provide advisory & assistance services (A&AS) support to the 704th Test Group (704 TG) at Holloman AFB, NM, specifically the 846th Test Squadron (846TS) and its mission to operate the world’s premier rocket sled test track. The 846TS works with customers to plan for and execute rocket sled tests, specifically designed to simulate selected portions of the flight environment in support of the development of weapon systems and other flight hardware.
The Instrumentation Flight (TGTD) at the 846TS is responsible for the buildup and deployment of track and sled-borne instrumentation equipment and systems to gather data to meet test program requirements. TGTD technicians are also responsible for all instrumentation preparation, fabrication, and integration while conducting operational checks and resolving malfunctions during test conduct. Test conduct consists of electrical and avionics systems support to include setup, troubleshooting, and maintaining systems and capabilities for the 846TS. Additionally, TGTD supports in-house capability development and facility maintenance.
Job Duties:
This position encompasses both lab and field work and may require off-shift work. The applicant must be able to work alone or in a group. The contractor shall provide electronic technical support to TGTD including, but not limited to, the following duties:
- Fielding, operating, and troubleshooting systems for command and control, data acquisition, networking, power distribution, datalogging, and telemetry during mission set-up, conduct, and teardown.
- Use wiring diagrams, assembly guides, and schematics to build manikin electrical and mechanical systems and/or various test pallet configurations.
- Maintain test capabilities and resources through preventative maintenance, calibration, modification, etc.
- Comply with safety, security, and environmental safety policies, procedures, and other AF program requirements.
Required/Desired Education and Skills:
- US Citizenship required
- Must hold an active Department of Defense Secret security clearance or must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD secret clearance
- Experience with Microsoft Office 365 Suite including Outlook, Teams, Word, SharePoint, PowerPoint, Project, and Excel
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously
- Demonstrated problem-solving abilities
- Bachelor’s degree plus at least two years of experience required (experience may be substituted for education with prior customer approval)
