What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education Teacher (1.0 FTE) position at Canton High School?
Canton High School is seeking a skilled and talented educator committed to promoting equity, a sense of belonging, and fostering academic and personal success for our students. We are a school of 900 students with a dedicated and skilled faculty and staff. Canton Public Schools serves students Pre-K-12 and also maintains an 18-22-year-old program.
The special educator will work with students in various settings which may include supported inclusion classes, co-teaching assignments, Academic Strategies sections (direct service delivery) and sub-separate classes. Candidates must maintain strong communication practices with families and develop positive relationships with students and staff.
Primary performance responsibilities include:
- Provide specialized instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives of each student’s IEP.
- Administer standardized assessment instruments as part of initial/three-year evaluations, write evaluation reports, and share results at IEP meetings
- Utilize various teaching techniques, methods, and instructional practices to assist students in meeting their IEP goals.
- Develop and implement IEPs and regularly attend and participate in team meetings.
- Coordinate the delivery of special education services in compliance with student IEPs.
- Create a positive learning experience with an emphasis on individualized instruction.
- Knowledge of ABA and behavior modification strategies.
- Knowledge of vocational skills and transition planning.
- Ability to deliver direct instruction in a variety of subject areas in collaboration with primary content teachers and support staff.
Application requirements:
- Candidates must hold a valid teaching license in the state of Massachusetts and in the field of Special Education (Moderate or eligible to receive Moderate license)
