Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Job Description

Position Summary

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides direct resident care under the supervision of a licensed nurse. The CNA assists residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), promotes resident comfort and dignity, observes and reports changes in condition, and helps maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment while delivering compassionate, person-centered care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist residents with bathing, dressing, grooming, oral hygiene, and toileting.
• Help residents with transfers, repositioning, ambulation, and use of mechanical lifts as trained.
• Answer resident call lights promptly and courteously.
• Take and record vital signs, weights, and intake/output as assigned.
• Assist residents with meals, hydration, and feeding when necessary.
• Observe residents for changes in physical or emotional condition and report concerns immediately to the licensed nurse.
• Maintain accurate documentation of care provided.
• Keep resident rooms clean, organized, and stocked with necessary supplies.
• Assist with making beds, changing linens, and maintaining a clean environment.
• Promote resident dignity, privacy, and independence.
• Follow infection prevention and control procedures, including proper hand hygiene and use of PPE.
• Follow all safety procedures and facility policies.
• Attend required in-service training and staff meetings.
• Work cooperatively with nursing staff and other departments to provide quality resident care.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Current Ohio State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) certification in good standing.
• Current CPR certification (or ability to obtain after hire).
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
• Previous long-term care experience preferred but not required.
• Compassionate, dependable, and team-oriented.

Physical Requirements

• Frequently lift, move, push, or pull up to 50 pounds with assistance as needed.
• Stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and reach throughout the shift.
• Ability to assist with resident transfers and mobility.
• Ability to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
