What You'll Do
Role overview
We are looking for a passionate, patient, and energetic assistant teacher to join our afternoon team. You will partner closely with lead teachers to create a safe, stimulating environment where children are actively engaged and encouraged to grow.
Responsibilities
- Support planning, sequencing, and execution of process-based activities aligned with our play-based philosophy
- Assist with day-to-day classroom operations and transitions
- Engage intentionally with children to encourage age-appropriate cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development
- Remain flexible and responsive to children's interests, allowing for depth of engagement
- Communicate warmly and effectively with children, families, and colleagues
- Collaborate with lead teachers on lesson planning and shared materials
- Attend monthly staff meetings and fulfill annual continuing education requirements
- Model kindness, patience, and good citizenship every day
Requirements
Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience in early childhood education
- Minimum three years of experience working with preschool-age children
- Familiarity with child-centered educational philosophies (Reggio Emilia, Montessori, Piaget)
- Genuine empathy and respect for children, families, and colleagues
- Energy, enthusiasm, and a deep love of young learners
- Personal passion for learning, play, and discovery
- Ability to reliably commute to Henrico, VA 23229
