Position Summary
Assistant Managers (AM’s) are responsible for supporting the Store Manager (SM) with the daily operations of the store. They ensure the store is prepared for opening every morning, support the sales and inventory teams throughout the day and perform closing procedures at the end of each day. Additionally, AM’s ensure all team members adhere to company standards and procedures and serve as a point of contact for resolution of any issues when the SM is not present. The AM team is made up of 3 to 5 members who will all have the same core responsibilities, as well as specific areas of responsibilities, which will change periodically.
Core Responsibilities & Duties
Manages daily cash handling, including opening and closing registers, providing cash drops as needed, observing and monitoring transactions and approving staff purchases.
Ensures proper store opening and closing procedures are performed and completed by Leads & Associates.
Maintains adherence to company presentation, branding, and merchandising standards, as well as overall appearance and cleanliness of the facility.
Regularly reviews company policies & procedures and ensures adherence by all team members.
Coaches Leads and Associates, provides growth and learning opportunities, and assists with conflict resolution among the team.
Serves as a conduit for communications between their subordinates and management and provides feedback to both.
Maintains comprehensive understanding of industry rules and regulations related to retail cannabis sales in order to ensure compliance standards.
Assesses sales floor flow and inventory needs; audits and monitors inventory levels.
Communicates with the Inventory team to ensure products are stocked adequately and replacements are moved timely.
Ensures Associates and Leads maintain positive energy throughout the day and provides periodic feedback on job performance.
Sets an example for Associates and Leads by providing excellent customer service at all times.
Regularly reviews in store menus and inventory on the sales floor and notifies management or Inventory team of any discrepancies observed or items in need of replenishment.
Manages customer complaints, phone questions and handles returns of products.
Ensures a secure facility and that all staff comply with established safety and security procedures
Holds team accountable for maintaining equipment and software and ensuring proper use during shift
Specific Areas of Responsibilities (Subject to Change)
Inventory
Focuses on Inventory team and procedures
Ensures all inventory receipts and movements within the store are performed in compliance with our SOP’s
Investigates discrepancies and provides reports to SM for review
Assists SM & Director of Products with audits, analyzing inventory levels and ordering requirements.
Development
Assists Director of Operations & SM with recruitment and onboarding of new employees
Coordinate initial training for all new employees
Develop & revise training programs for all store functions
Collaborates with SM & Director of Operations on periodic reviews, observations, evaluations and discipline
Operations
Responsible for creating a schedule for all employees and updating to account for PTO, call-outs and overall changes in customer traffic
Track attendance and approve timecards weekly
Collaborates with SM & Director of Operations on SOP and policy development and revisions
Responsible for tracking non-inventory supplies and notifying leadership of needs
Retail
Ensures sales floor is properly maintained, including cleanliness, appearance and functional efficiency
Collaborate with SM & Purchaser about potential improvements to planogram
Analyze sales, discounts, promotions to develop recommendations on how to increase future sales
Research potential new products/brands and collaborate with Purchaser & SM
Responsible for distribution of vendor swag and company branded apparel
Qualifications & Experience
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Bachelor’s Degree in business or related concentration, or at least two years of experience supervising a team, preferably in a retail environment, required.
Passionate and knowledgeable about the benefits of cannabis use required.
Fluency with Google Workspace or Microsoft Office, especially Sheets/Excel; knowledge of pivot tables and basic formulas preferred.
Outgoing, energetic, and enthusiastic attitude; strong work ethic.
High attention to detail and discretion when handling transactions.
Highly organized and detail oriented.
Adaptable and open-minded when troubleshooting new procedures or implementation of new systems, willing to provide constructive feedback.
Forward-thinking and idea driven.
Commitment to ensuring a secure facility and make sure all staff comply with established safety and security procedures.
Ability to function within cross-platform software environment.
Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, late evenings and weekends are required.
Must have a reliable personal vehicle.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs.
Ability to push and pull large carts filled with products (100 – 200lbs).
Ability to stand and walk for at least 8 hours at a time.
Workplace Environment
Busy retail environment with moderate noise level.
Loud at times, music, conversations and radio communication constantly.
High volume work during peak hours, events and holidays.
