The Department of Teacher Education and Leadership invites applications for a faculty position in the Physical Education/Health Program beginning August 2026 . Candidates possessing a terminal degree will be considered for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. Candidates who do not yet hold a terminal degree will be considered for a Visiting Assistant Professor position with the potential for conversion to tenure-track upon completion of the degree. The Physical Education/Health major is one of the seven majors and sixteen graduate programs offered by the department . T he department currently has ten full-time faculty/staff and is collegial, energetic, and dedicated to excellence in teaching.

All full-time faculty workloads are based on the equivalent of 12 credits/semester as assigned by the Department which may include, but not limited to:
🔹 Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in traditional and online environments.
🔹 Teach courses in motor learning/development, coaching, physical education methods, adapted physical education and other department courses as qualified.
🔹 Participate in research and scholarly activities, engage in service to the university, profession, and community, and participate in department, college, and university governance activities.
🔹 Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with department, university, community, and professional constituencies.
🔹 Supervise candidates in early field, practicum, &/or student teaching placements.
🔹 Advise students in program majors and graduate programs.
🔹 Assist with student recruitment.
🔹 Assist in curriculum development, outreach, student outcomes assessment, and accreditation.
🔹 Become and remain actively involved in professional organizations.

What You Need To Succeed
✔ Qualifications:
- A doctorate in Physical Education or a related curricular area is required for appointment at the tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor rank. Candidates who are A.B.D. or hold a Master’s degree in a relevant field will be considered for the Term Contract Assistant Professor rank. For those hired at the Term Contract rank, the Doctorate must be completed by August 2027 to be eligible for conversion to a tenure-track appointment.
- For all ranks: Successful K-12 physical education experience and college-level teaching experience in traditional and online formats are preferred .
- For Associate Professor Rank: Applicants must demonstrate a minimum of five years of successful university teaching, along with a proven record of excellence in research/scholarship, service, and student advising.
- Experience with administering teacher education programs.
- Evidence of professional and scholarly activity .
- Experience in successful grant writing and/or obtaining extramural funding.
- Experience in supervising student teachers or clinical students.
- Experience in program accreditation.
- Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.
- Proficient in written and oral English.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to the diversity of the department and to mentor and support students from underrepresented backgrounds.
- Must be eligible to work in the United States (This position is not eligible for sponsorship).
