The Volunteer Manager oversees the region’s volunteer program and recruits, engages, trains, retain, and oversees regional volunteers for utilization at Canine Companions’ events and organizational needs. They develop and maintain volunteer guidelines, materials, and procedures as well as organize and assist with Canine Companions’ volunteer and company events that educate the public on the importance of the organization’s mission and the value Canine Companions holds for its volunteer support.
Key Responsibilities

Volunteer Recruitment, Onboarding & Training: Provide clear and concise overview of Canine Companions’ volunteer program to all volunteer applicants... Interview volunteer applicants and provide follow-up as necessary. Conduct volunteer orientation meetings for new volunteers. Champion volunteer programs to maintain consistency across regions. Programs include orientation, mentors, ambassadors, training, succession planning and appreciation. Train volunteers in specified job areas in accordance with Canine Companions’ procedures. Oversee and evaluate the ongoing work performance of volunteers. Lead monthly chapter leadership calls with the volunteer chapters in the region. Act as the liaison between volunteer chapters and regional staff. Work with Headquarter Marketing staff, regional volunteer coordinators and volunteer program manager to update the Volunteer manual. Provide specific event training and provide volunteer coverage for campus special events.

Volunteer Engagement & Recognition: Frequently visit volunteer worksites and projects to reinforce excellent volunteerism and provide support when needed. Create and implement volunteer recognition opportunities... Volunteer Appreciation Event, volunteer awards... acknowledgment of birthdays, anniversaries, etc. Maintain and update all-volunteer bulletin boards on campus and oversee volunteer recognition. Work with client services to secure graduate speakers for volunteer events. Present at Team Training so that our graduates have the opportunity to hear how they can volunteer.

Event Planning & Volunteer Coordination: Schedule public presentations and campus tours. Provide training and feedback for speakers. Oversee the set-up of information booths and schedule staffing for off-site events. Acquire and oversee special events equipment and materials. Provide support to chapter leaders managing chapter pages in Experience Cloud. In conjunction with philanthropy staff, develop ad hoc volunteer committees for special events as needed. Support, encourage and oversee various volunteer chapter activities. Collaborate with Community Events Coordinator and assist with volunteer support at planned events.

Records & Data Management: Maintain volunteer information and records in VolunteerHub and Salesforce. Track and record volunteer hours and activities performed. Collaborate with regional volunteer coordinators and volunteer program manager to review and update Salesforce volunteer application materials and guidelines. Ensure complete compliance with the Volunteer manual to ensure consistency among the chapters.

Regional & Inter-Department Collaboration: Collaborate with regional volunteer coordinators and marketing to develop and implement action plans. Assist Marketing in updating volunteer webpage on the Canine Companions website as well as updating chapter websites. Work with program to secure the use of a dog in professional training if appropriate for the presentation. Work with HQ staff, PR/Marketing, Community Events, Philanthropy, and Client Services teams across responsibilities.

Administrative & Fundraising Support: Complete special philanthropy and volunteer projects, which require initiative, flexibility and creativity. May be responsible for administrative functions in support of the development team including Office manager back-up, processing donations and follow-up acknowledgement. Regional volunteer managers may be required to steward specific donors and/or play an active role in fundraising initiatives with full responsibility and events and financial goal. Provide input to regional volunteer budget and assist the executive director in ensuring that the budget is maintained as approved.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, candidates should possess the following:

Ability to organize and maintain detailed records; complete necessary paperwork and meet deadlines.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills including public speaking.

Ability to work evenings and weekends when needed.
Nice to Have:

Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a volunteer management role, public speaking, training, event planning and customer service preferred

Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or equivalent experience

Certified in Volunteer Administration (CVA) preferred
Compensation
-
Salary Range: $55,000-$59,000 annually
-
For internal candidates, compensation will be set within the posted wage range for the role, in consideration of internal equity and the scope of the position.

The base salary range above represents the low and high of the range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of the total compensation package for employees.
