Canine CellMates / Beyond the Bars, a unique program focused on rehabilitation instead of punishment, has as its mission “Utilizing Shelter Dogs to Break the Cycle of Incarceration.” Rescue dogs are the heart of our program, and the magic that facilitates positive change. We run our programs around the concept of positive reinforcement, and apply that concept to staff, volunteers and the men in our programs.

Animal Care Duties
Kennel techs will provide direct, hands-on care for the dogs in our facility. The kennel tech team is responsible for cleaning cages and kennels, feeding dogs, administering meds, and walking dogs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Properly clean and disinfect kennels.
- Properly feed and provide water to dogs as instructed.
- Notify animal care supervisors of noted medical needs.
- Safely and properly handle all dogs, according to CCM standards of care
- Transport sick or injured dogs to offsite veterinarians as needed.
- Other tasks as assigned.
Desired Skills:
- Animal Care - Knowledge of general animal care principles and practices. Ability to appropriately interact with dogs
- Good Communication Skills - Excellent customer service, good oral and written communication skills with coworkers, volunteers and program participants, delivered with compassion, honesty and integrity.
- Endurance - Stand for extended periods (8 hours a day), bend and reach to perform assigned work activities, and lift and carry 50 lbs. without assistance.
- Comprehension - Understand and follow a variety of oral and written instructions and procedures.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to observe and properly communicate needs of dogs to appropriate supervisor
Qualifications/Educational Background:
- Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent preferred
- One years’ experience in animal related field preferred.
- Scheduling flexibility, to include availability to work one or more weekend days, and some holidays
- Willing to submit to drug screening as requested
- Must have reliable transportation
- Must love dogs!
