What you will do as a Lumber Grader:
- Examine lumber for defects such as knots, splits, and warping, and determine its grade based on industry standards.
- Assign grades to lumber pieces according to quality and usability guidelines.
- Sort lumber into appropriate categories for processing, storage, or shipping.
- Maintain accurate records of grades, quantities, and any issues identified during the grading process.
- Ensure all graded lumber meets company and industry quality standards before it reaches customers.
- Work closely with other team members, including quality control staff, to ensure consistent product quality.
- Previous experience in lumber grading or a similar role in the wood products industry is a plus.
- High school diploma or equivalent. Additional training or certification in lumber grading is a bonus.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify and assess wood defects and qualities.
- Good understanding of lumber grades, species, and quality standards.
- Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including lifting heavy objects, standing for long periods, and working in various weather conditions.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well with others.
