Apprentice Groundman
Location: Smithville, TN | Type: Full-time | FLSA: Non-exempt
Caney Fork Electric Cooperative is seeking an Apprentice Groundman to join our team in Smithville, TN. This entry-level position plays a crucial role in supporting line crews and preparing for the construction and maintenance of electrical distribution systems. This is an outdoor role that often involves working in adverse weather conditions. Upon successful completion of the Apprenticeship Program (up to 5.5 years), eligibility for Lineman status will be considered.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist line crews by loading/unloading trucks, setting up work zones, and transporting materials.
Operate tools and equipment safely and perform routine inspections.
Learn and follow all safety procedures and participate in related training.
Support tasks such as digging, setting poles, installing anchors, and basic equipment operation.
Interact courteously with the public and represent CFEC professionally.
Participate in on-call schedules for outages and after-hours duties.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required.
- Commercial Tennessee Driver's License Class "A" is preferred. If not already attained, the applicant must be willing to undergo training and acquire within six (6) months of employment.
- Completion of a relevant pole climbing school is preferred. If not already attained, the applicant must be willing to obtain certification within six (6) months from the date of employment.
- Must be physically fit to perform the essential functions required, which includes responsibilities as directed.
- No specialized experience is required, however, any experience wherein working with other individuals in a team effort is highly desirable.
- Centrally located within a 20-mile radius of the assigned CFEC reporting office is required to ensure operational efficiency and timely response.
