Role Description The School Psychologist is a full-time, hybrid role based in Cypress, TX, with a combination of on-site work in local school settings and some work-from-home flexibility. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting comprehensive psychological and educational assessments, evaluating students for special education eligibility, and preparing clear, legally compliant reports and recommendations. The role involves collaborating with educators, administrators, and families to develop individualized education plans (IEPs), behavior intervention plans (BIPs), and other supports that promote academic and social-emotional success. The School Psychologist will provide consultation on mental health and behavioral concerns, participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, and support crisis intervention and prevention efforts as needed. Additional tasks include maintaining accurate documentation, adhering to ethical and regulatory standards, and contributing to professional development activities for school staff.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in applied Psychology, including child and adolescent development, learning theory, and behavioral principles.
- Experience with Psychological Assessment, including cognitive, academic, social-emotional, and behavioral evaluations for school-aged students.
- Background in Counseling and Mental Health, with skills in consultation, crisis response, and supporting students’ social-emotional well-being.
- Understanding of Medicine as it relates to educational impact (e.g., neurodevelopmental disorders, chronic health conditions) and ability to collaborate with medical professionals when appropriate.
- Relevant master’s or doctoral degree in School Psychology or a closely related field; appropriate state licensure or certification (LSSP or equivalent in Texas) or eligibility to obtain it.
- Knowledge of special education law, evaluation procedures, and standards for eligibility determination (IDEA, Section 504, state regulations).
- Effective communication skills for working with diverse students, families, and school personnel, including clear report writing and presentation skills.
- Ability to manage caseloads, prioritize tasks, and work both independently and as part of multidisciplinary teams in a hybrid work environment.
