  • Education: An Associate's degree or higher in Special Education, Education, or a related field from an accredited institution.

  • Certification: A valid Colorado Paraprofessional License or Training Certificate from the Colorado Department of Education (CDE).

  • Additional Requirements: Understanding of special education laws, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and familiarity with the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process. CPR certification is preferred.

  • Language Proficiency: Bilingual abilities are a plus but not mandatory.

Your Role:

As a Special Education Paraprofessional, you will be a vital support system for students with diverse needs, helping them to thrive in their educational environment. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Support Individualized Plans: Assist in the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) established by the education team, ensuring each student receives tailored support according to their unique strengths and requirements.

  • Deliver Specialized Support: Provide direct assistance to students in various learning settings, addressing academic, social, and behavioral goals through differentiated strategies.

  • Monitor Progress: Help collect and document data to track student progress towards their IEP objectives, working collaboratively with educators to adjust approaches as necessary.

  • Collaborate with Teams: Team up with teachers, related service providers, and families to ensure comprehensive support for students. Participate in IEP meetings and communicate effectively with all stakeholders about individual student needs.

  • Promote Positive Behavior: Assist in implementing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and contribute to fostering a positive and safe learning environment consistent with Colorado’s Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework.

  • Support Students’ Growth: Help meet the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs of students by providing necessary accommodations and modifications, ensuring they have equitable access to the curriculum and school community.
