Candlewick Press, a leading publisher of books for children located in Somerville, MA, seeks a Temporary Seasonal Production Assistant position. The ideal candidate will be able to undertake a variety of production and administrative support tasks and work diligently to meet deadlines. This person will be comfortable working with a high degree of attention. This temporary role will assist the Production team with the organization and filing of backlogged materials and books, and the cataloging of various systems and files.

Primary Responsibilities will include:

• Work with the Production department to maintain the print library to keep it up-to-date and organized with most current impression samples.

• Support Production department by opening packages and distributing digital proof per the Materials Due-in tracker.

• Assist in mailing sample books to our printers for the dummy making of slipcases for boxed sets.

• Receive, approve, and distribute advanced copies for all Candlewick- and Walker-originated titles.

• Filing and other administrative tasks for the Production department.

• Assist the Production department in completing various projects around the office

• Perform other tasks as needed.

Required Experience, Skills and Abilities:

• This role dictates that the individual be content with repetitive tasks, a quick learner and be resourceful, proactive, and a strong team player

• Able to lift heavy packages and objects to a maximum of 35 lbs.

• Administrative assistant experience is a plus

• Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and experience with using databases

• Excellent communication, detail orientation and organization skills

• Friendly, approachable and diplomatic

• Able to maintain accuracy while meeting deadlines

This is a temporary, part-time role based in our Somerville, Massachusetts office starting in August and continuing into September/October. Working an average of 14 hours per week at $18-$19/hr during usual business hours will be necessary. While this is a temporary role, it will provide an opportunity to experience various aspects of a children’s publishing environment.
