Summary
Ensures optimum patient flow through the office; accurate and prompt entry submission of charges; initiation of new patient medical records; accurate, efficient scheduling of patient visits and timely submission of reports.

Major Job Functions
The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below. In addition, specific functions may change from time to time:
- Ensures completion of the new patient information packet including consents, insurance forms and other clinical documents.
- Verifies and updates the computer system with patient demographic and insurance information.
- Schedules appointments for follow-up visits and procedures in the computer system.
- Determines the appropriate provider, length and time of appointment.
- Accurately posts charges in the computer system to the proper patient account.
- Collects and posts payments from patients and prepares patient receipts.
- Maintains and is responsible for cash drawer (batch) and balances and closes cash drawer.
- Answers basic questions about patients’ bills and insurance.
- Directs patients to appropriate clinical area.
- Closes and secures the office at the end of shift.
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:
Education and Formal Training:
- High school graduate or equivalent required
Work Experience:
- 1 year clerical experience required
- Medical business office or significant public contact experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Ability to deal with patients under stress
- Good planning and organizational abilities
- speaking and hearing necessary to converse with the public
- office equipment skills necessary
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to see and read printed data and computer screens
- Manual dexterity
- Visual and auditory acuity to collect information
- Verbal communication skills
- Ability to lift, stoop, bend, kneel, reach and sit for extended periods of time
