What are the responsibilities and job description for the Landscape Technician position at Canaveral Port Authority?
Job Summary:
This position is the individual on staff of the Canaveral Port Authority who is responsible for maintaining Port Authority grounds. This position reports directly to the Manager Landscape and Small Projects but will take direction from the Landscape Lead.
Essential Functions:
Responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, preservation and appearance of the grounds, pier and equipment of the Port
Operate CPA machinery including tractors, mowers and trucks
Responsible for care and maintenance of Port-owned irrigation systems
Perform other duties as assigned
During emergency conditions, all CPA employees are automatically considered essential employees and may be subject to recall. These events may include, but are not limited to, natural, man-made, or public health emergencies. Employees may be expected to perform emergency and/or recovery operations outside of their normal assigned responsibilities and routine working hours.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED equivalent
Must have one (1) year experience in commercial landscaping
Experience operating heavy machinery (mowers, tractors, lifts)
Must have superior attendance
Must be a team player able to perform in a fast-paced environment, be flexible and a self-starter
Must possess excellent customer service focus and superior communication skills
Licenses / Certification Required:
Valid Florida Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 30 days
Must be able to secure a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) to obtain access to restricted facility areas
Physical Requirement:
Tasks involve the intermittent performance of physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling or crouching and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds).
Work in various adverse conditions such as tight or enclosed spaces, heights, in indoors or outdoors environments to complete work assignments.
Working Conditions:
Tasks are performed in indoor and outdoor environments. Due to the nature and location of the work environment, tasks include potential for intermittent exposure to disagreeable elements, e.g., heat, humidity, inclement weather
Some tasks include working in and around moving vehicles and associated vehicle/equipment areas, where heightened awareness to surroundings and observance of established safety precautions is essential in avoidance of injury or accidents
