Role Description
This is a full-time on-site or remote* role located in Shakopee, MN for an Avionics System Engineer (Intermediate - Senior). The role involves designing, and integrtaing avionics systems installations into air transport aircraft. Creating architecture diagrams, installation instructions, engineering orders, reports for retrofit and installation of avionics LRU's (Line Replaceable Units) to interface with legacy analog systems. Design installation kits (A-kits) to interface with existing aircraft systems, and provide supervision of the installation, modification and training. The engineer will interact with Canard shop personnel to specify and oversee accuracy of electrical conformity to design specifications. Familiarity with Collins Flight2 and/or C-130 aircraft is highly desirable.
Duties and Responsibilities
As part of the Engineering team, the applicant will:
- Research and analyze requirements. This includes technical requirements, ICDs, mechanical drawings, electrical drawings, wiring diagrams etc...
- Develop top-level and detailed system architectures integrating avionics from different vendors
- Perform aircraft surveys and collect required data
- Create Interface Control Documents (ICD) - Defining the interfaces between all affected avionics systems
- Write Engineering Orders, create installation instructions
- Create Manual Supplements for maintenance and operations
- Review customer requirements and Statement(s) of Work
- Design and/or review avionics solutions based on custoemr requirements
- Support Sales & Business Development staff with proposals, technical review of customer requirements and program risk - including schedule.
- Support certifications of avionics systems to FAA, EASA or foreign civil agencies.
- Create Installation Data Package (Technical Data Package) to include: systems and electrical fabrication, assembly and installation drawings, master data lists, drawings and reports.
Qualifications
- Background in Aircraft Electrical Systems or Avionics Systems Engineering
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related technical disciplines with 5 years of relevant experience, or Completion/Certificate from Technical College with 8 years of avionics engineering with air carrier, airline, air freight operator, or MRO.
- Experience with aircraft harness, wiring or cable design/schematics
- Knowledge of Aircraft systems and their integration into avionics architecture
- Problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a team-oriented environment
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulatory compliance (e.g., FAA standards)
- Good written and oral communication skills
- USA Passport, available for domestic & international travel (occasional)
- Must be eligible to obtain DoD Secret Clearance
Preferred Qualifications
- Collins Flight2 and C-130 aircraft experience
- FAA DER delegation
- 5 years of experience in a similar company designing avioncis systems or installing avionics upgrades
- Familiarity with FAA and EASA Supplemental Type Certification (STC) Process
- Experience with FMS, GPS, EFB, CNS/ATM
- Availability to work on-site at our Shakopee, MN facility or at our offices in Costa Mesa, CA
