Director of Montessori School

Canandaigua Montessori School (CMS) is immediately seeking a Director to lead our Montessori educational program. The director is responsible for compliance with state and local regulations and program policies. As well as, being responsible for overseeing all aspects of the program including overseeing staff, curriculum, financials, and facilities.

Salary:$62,500 - 65,000.

Knowledge, Skills, and Dispositions:

The director has knowledge of the educational process, Montessori pedagogy is not required but must be obtained after hire, personnel management, sales, marketing, and social media. A director uses strong communication skills, organization, critical thinking, social perceptiveness, and information management. A director has the ability to communicate, motivate, maintain confidentiality, and create a healthy environment for children and adults.

All persons holding this position must be cleared through the NYS Central Registry of Child Abuse and their fingerprints submitted to required authorities.

When you join our team as a Director you will:

• Cultivate positive relationships with families, teachers, state licensing authorities, community contacts, and corporate partners
• Hire, engage and develop a team of educators to be passionate and committed professionals
• Partner with families to provide the best care and education for their children
• Ensure compliance with state and local agencies
• Support toddler and primary teachers through regular check-ins and communication
• Give tours to prospective families
• Develop content and update social media and website platforms
• Organize fundraising opportunities
• Develop annual budget and maintain financial records for review with Board of Trustees on a quarterly basis
• Bill tuition for families and collection payments
• Serve as liaison with the Board of Trustees

Required Skills and Experience:

• Have a love for children and a strong desire to make a difference every day
• Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Quckbooks
• Lift a minimum of 40 pounds
• Work indoors or outdoors
• Must be able to assume postures in low levels to allow physical and visual contact with children, see and hear well enough to keep children safe, and engage in physical activity with children
• Ability to build relationships with families and staff and create a dynamic environment
• Outstanding communication skills
• Strong organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task and manage multiple situations effectively
• Must meet state-specific guidelines for the role
• Desire to work collaboratively as part of a team
• Child Care Centers (in areas of the state outside of New York City) - Bachelor's degree including or in addition to, 12 credits in Early Childhood, Child Development or related field and one year full-time teaching experience in a child day care center, family or day care home or other early childhood program AND one year of experience supervising staff. New York State Children's Program Administrator Credential AND one year full-time teaching experience in a child day care center, family or group family day care home or other early childhood program AND one year of experience supervising staff. OR associates degree in early childhood or related field with a plan of study leading to a bachelor's degree AND two years full-time teaching experience in a child day care center, family or group family day care OR a Child Development Associate Credential with a plan of study leading to a bachelor's degree AND two year full-time experience in a child care center, family or group family child care home or other early childhood program AND two years of experience supervising staff (NYSOCFS 418-1.13(g)).

About Our School:

Canandaigua Montessori School was founded in 1973 and has been an important part of the community ever since. The school currently has five staff members and serves a total of 50 children, ages 18 months through six years old. CMS currently has a Toddler Classroom, two Primary Classrooms, offers wrap around care, and summer programming. The school is governed by a Board of Directors.

The primary purpose of Canandaigua Montessori School is to encourage the acquisition of skills and attitudes that will form the basis of a love and desire for life-long learning and discovery. In addition, we hope to guide children to become independent, self-fulfilled and responsible individuals and members of their communities. All of this is done through the foundation of the Montessori philosophy and principles and best educational practice.

CMS is located in beautiful Canandaigua, NY, which is in the heart of the Finger Lakes Region. Canandaigua is located at the northwest end of Canandaigua Lake and is 30 mins from Rochester, NY, an hour to Syracuse, NY, and an hour and half to Buffalo, NY.
