Long-Term Special Education Paraeducator Essex North Supervisory Union Position Type: Long-Term Temporary Tentative Dates: October 2026 January 2027 Position Summary Essex North Supervisory Union is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and student-centered Long-Term Special Education Paraeducator to join our team at Canaan Schools. This position provides direct support to students with individualized educational programming in both classroom and school settings. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the student's Case Manager/Special Educator to implement educational and behavioral programming, collect student data, and help create a positive, inclusive learning environment where every student can succeed. Essential Responsibilities Implement individualized educational and behavioral programming as directed by the Case Manager/Special Educator.
Provide instructional support to students in general education, special education, and other school environments. Collect accurate data on student progress, behaviors, and goal achievement. Support students in developing academic, social, communication, and functional life skills. Assist students in maintaining attention, engagement, and participation throughout the school day.
Foster positive relationships while encouraging student independence. Collaborate with teachers, service providers, and school staff to ensure consistent implementation of student supports. Maintain confidentiality regarding student information in accordance with district policies and federal regulations. Assist with transitions, supervision, and other duties necessary to support student success.
Participate in team meetings and training opportunities as requested.Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate degree or experience working with children or individuals with disabilities preferred. Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills. Ability to follow individualized instructional and behavioral plans.
Patience, flexibility, and a positive attitude. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism. Successful completion of required background checks. Reports To Case Manager/Special Educator and Building Administrator Physical Requirements Ability to move throughout the school building and campus.
Ability to assist students with mobility, positioning, or personal care if required. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds, as needed. Ability to respond appropriately during behavioral or emergency situations.
