Position Summary
The Lead Fire Alarm Inspector is responsible for leading inspection activities, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards, and delivering exceptional service to customers. This role provides technical leadership, supports team development, and ensures inspections are completed accurately, efficiently, and on schedule.
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong technical expertise, customer interaction, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and perform inspections and functional testing of fire alarm and life safety systems
- Ensure systems comply with NFPA standards, local codes, and manufacturer requirements
- Produce detailed and accurate inspection reports, including deficiencies and corrective actions
- Serve as the primary point of contact for customers during inspections
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and oversight to junior inspectors and technicians
- Assist with troubleshooting, minor repairs, and system diagnostics
- Interpret blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams
- Coordinate schedules and communicate effectively with internal teams and customers
- Maintain strong working relationships with customers, vendors, and team members
- Ensure all work meets company quality, safety, and productivity standards
Qualifications
Required
- NICET Certification (Level II or higher preferred; Level I minimum required)
- 3 years of experience inspecting fire alarm or related life safety systems
- High School Diploma or GED
- Strong knowledge of fire alarm systems, codes, and inspection procedures
- Ability to troubleshoot low-voltage electrical systems
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
Preferred
- NICET Level II or higher
- OSHA 10 Certification
- Experience in leadership or mentoring roles
- Experience with inspection software and reporting tools
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong understanding of fire alarm systems, components, and circuitry
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Effective time management and organizational abilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods.
- Capable of lifting and carrying up to 70 lbs.
- Comfortable working at heights and operating ladders or lifts.
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed on active construction sites or customer facilities under varied climate conditions.
- Travel may be required based on customer needs.
- Overtime may be necessary to meet deadlines or emergency demands.
