Position

The Grants Specialist works directly with the Director of Finance & Administration to identify necessary funding to meet the $3M budgetary needs of the four-county organization. The Grants Specialist is responsible for researching, writing and securing competitive federal, state, local, and private grant proposals. The Grant Specialist monitors grant compliance and submits necessary reports to funders. This full-time, exempt position reports to the Director of Finance & Administration and is located in the Saginaw office with occasional travel to Bay City and Bad Axe offices required. Some weekend/evening hours will be required in order to meet grant submission and reporting deadlines, and as part of agency fundraisers and for networking opportunities.

Responsibilities

1. Develop plan for securing necessary grant funding to meet program and strategic objectives

2. Research grant opportunities from government and non-government sources

3. Develop all new grant proposals for local, corporate, state and federal grants

4. Maintain communications with grant funders and pursue renewal of current grants

5. Respond to internal and external queries on drafted and submitted proposals

6. Monitor organization’s compliance with grant award terms and conditions ensuring the fidelity of all grant projects/programs

7. Submit timely reports to grantors

8. Work with Grants Manager, Finance Team and Program Directors on grant budgets, expenditures; reconcile monthly and prepare quarterly, final and annual financial reporting

9. Report monthly the status of grant proposals submitted, approved/rejected, in-process to Director of Finance & Administration and President/CEO.

10. Contribute to the creation of the annual budget by providing Director of Finance & Administration with current, renewing and new grant opportunities.

11. Attend and represent CAN Council at regional events as requested

12. Maintain CAN Council profiles on non-profit evaluators

13. Other accounting or related administrative duties as assigned to achieve the mission of the organization

Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communications, human services or a

related field

2. A minimum of five-years’ experience in grant writing and reporting

3. Experience in securing and managing $1-2M in grant awards

4. Excellent knowledge of proposal submission and fundraising process

5. Strong research skills

6. Excellent knowledge of all Microsoft Office programs (particularly Planner, Excel and Word) and CRM databases

7. Proven project leader with at least 3-years’ experience

8. Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and dedication to the mission of the CAN Council

9. Proactive, self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit

10. A successful track record in setting priorities; keen analytic, organization and problem-solving skills which support and enable sound decision making

11. Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders

12. Possess the ability to wear many hats in a fast-paced environment

Annual satisfactory background check clearance required.

Pay: $53,000.00 - $58,000.00 per year
