Bethlehem Energy Center is a state-of-the-art combined-cycle power plant fueled primarily by natural gas. The facility operates a 3 x 3 x 1 configuration:
- Three GE 7FA combustion turbine-generators (CTGs)
- Three Nooter/Eriksen heat-recovery steam generators (HRSGs)
- One GE D11 steam turbine-generator
Position Summary:
The Production Technician Operator C ensures the safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant operation of the Bethlehem Energy Center’s combined-cycle power plant. This role focuses on overseeing the start-up and shutdown of gas and steam turbine systems, maintaining plant reliability, and supporting operational excellence. In addition to monitoring complex equipment and systems, the position plays a key role in troubleshooting issues and mentoring junior operators, contributing to a culture of safety and continuous improvement. Overtime is mandatory for this position to support continuous plant operations. This is a union role governed by a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain auxiliary equipment for CTGs, HRSGs, and water treatment systems.
- Start and stop equipment under normal and emergency conditions.
- Provide detailed training to junior Operators.
- Execute safe and effective Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) procedures.
- Perform electrical switching operations and minor mechanical/electrical repairs (e.g., piping connections, gasket replacement, thermocouples).
- Conduct routine operational tests and maintain water/steam chemistry.
- Perform rigging activities and inspections on plant equipment.
- Serve as backup to Lead Production Technician Storekeeper when needed.
- Communicate plant conditions and maintain housekeeping standards.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Preferred: 2 years of power generation experience.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical equipment, process systems, steam, and electrical theory.
- Certified in First Aid, CPR/AED.

All plant employees are expected to work safely at all times. Working at the power plant may involve:
- Exposure to varied outdoor environments, including extreme weather conditions, high noise levels, hazardous areas, and diverse work surfaces.
- Frequent use of personal protective equipment (PPE), such as hard hats, safety glasses, respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high-voltage protective gear.
- Working near high-voltage equipment and operating heavy machinery, with proper training and safety protocols.
- Entry into confined spaces and potentially hazardous environments, often accompanied by exposure to loud machinery and equipment.
- Physical activities including walking, standing for extended periods, crawling, stooping, sitting, climbing vertical and inclined ladders/stairs, operating large valves, and performing tasks requiring up to 50 lbs. of pulling, turning, lifting, or carrying.
- Exposure to extreme heat and cold.
- Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for operating switches, pushbuttons, and other controls.
- Visual acuity requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Participation in a post-offer physical examination and drug screening, as well as ongoing random drug testing.
- Compliance with strict smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
Applicants must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a clean driving record, as this position requires occasional travel for company business. Candidates should be comfortable operating a vehicle as part of their job responsibilities and must meet any applicable company and insurance requirements.
