GENERAL SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Sr. Manager – Utilities & Infrastructure, this position provides the technical knowledge to analyze plant utility systems at all plant and warehouse locations and develop projects and programs that ensure system reliability and meet the utility demands of our plant production systems. This position requires an understanding of the utility needs of our production systems, technical understanding of the design, operation and maintenance of utility systems and the ability to communicate with multiple levels of operations personnel, internal and external engineering resources and upper level plant and WHQ management to present utility systems projects.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide engineering analysis of plant utility systems at our plant and warehouse locations and develop programs and projects to ensure operational reliability, system maintenance and, where deemed necessary, eventual system replacement. (20%)
- Initiate solutions to utility system problems that incorporate innovative thought to develop solutions with steam generation, HVAC, compressed air, water supply, fuel delivery, and energy recovery and conservation projects. (20%)
- Prepare conceptual designs for utility related projects by working with consultant engineers and contractors to provide system detail designs and project implementation both on time and under budget. (15%)
- Develop conceptual plans, specifications, budgets and schedules for utility project work. (15%)
- Serve on project management teams as subject matter expert to define utility system requirements and coordinate activities with other team members including plant personnel, outside engineering resources, internal design engineering personnel and project managers. (15%)
- Continue professional development by researching latest utility system technology through means including trade associations, vendor contacts, formal seminars, workshops, trade shows and other training avenues. (5%)
- Manage, update and ensure communication and enforcement of technical specifications related to utility systems. (5%)
COMPLEXITY AND SCOPE:
- Candidate must possess a technical understanding of thermodynamic principles, have a mechanical engineering background and be familiar with plant utility system components. They must also have a good command of engineering economics, understand safety code requirements and be able to work with varying levels of Company personnel. Typical projects include the upgrade of plant steam generation capabilities and HVAC systems and the development of projects to conserve energy and reduce operational costs.
- Position requires a basic understanding of plant utility systems in order to solve technical problems associated with system malfunctions or inadequacies.
- Requires the ability to develop conceptual designs, understand and prepare engineering specifications and requests for proposals and the ability to effectively manage and implement medium to highly complex, multi-functional projects that could range from $300,000 to $3,000,000 (aggregate value of annual project portfolio). Level responsibilities range from having a participative role in the management of capital dollars associated with authorized projects to playing a major role in the effective management of these capital funds to successfully deliver project results.
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- 5 years experience, preferably in a manufacturing plant environment.
CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
- PMP Certification
% OF TRAVEL REQUIRED FOR THE POSITION :
- 40%
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Work requires ability to navigate the way around the utility system areas of food manufacturing plants which, at times, can be cramped, hot and humid.
