Role Description The Senior Plumbing Designer is a full-time, on-site role based in Chattanooga, TN. This position is responsible for leading plumbing system design for commercial, institutional, and industrial projects, including the preparation of detailed construction drawings, specifications, and documentation. Day-to-day tasks include coordinating with mechanical, electrical, and fire protection disciplines, performing calculations and equipment selections, and ensuring designs comply with applicable codes and standards. The Senior Plumbing Designer will review and mark up drawings, support junior team members, participate in client and project meetings, and assist with design revisions during construction. The role requires collaboration with project managers, architects, and contractors to deliver efficient, cost-effective, and constructible plumbing solutions across a multitude of vertical market sectors.
Qualifications
- Strong proficiency in Plumbing Design and Plumbing system layout, including domestic water, sanitary, storm, and specialty systems.
- Experience producing and reviewing Construction Drawings, including coordination with other engineering disciplines and adherence to building codes.
- Working knowledge of Fire Protection system considerations and their interface with plumbing and mechanical systems.
- Familiarity with HVAC Design principles to coordinate plumbing work with mechanical systems in integrated building designs.
- Proficiency with relevant design and drafting software (e.g., Revit (preferred), AutoCAD, or similar BIM tools) and Microsoft Office.
- Several years of progressive experience in plumbing design for building projects; prior experience in a consulting engineering environment is preferred.
- Understanding of applicable plumbing and building codes, standards, and best practices.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary team and interact with clients and contractors.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, or a related field; professional licensure or certification (such as CPD) is a plus.
