Who We Are

Camp Tel Yehudah’s dynamic program of experiential education, activism, and leadership development connects teens to Israel and Judaism. As Young Judaea’s national teen leadership camp, we are a community dedicated to fun, friendships, learning, and social action.

About the Position

The Rosh Pool is responsible for overseeing all aquatics programming and operations at Camp Tel Yehudah, ensuring the safety of all chanichim (campers) and staff in and around the pool. This role involves managing the free swim program, developing and facilitating aquatics electives, and ensuring full compliance with all applicable state, local, and federal regulations. As a member of the Leadership Team, the Rosh Pool takes an active role in camp-wide decision-making and community building.

Responsibilities

Aquatics Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure all pool operations are in full compliance with applicable New York State, local, and federal health and safety regulations
  • Maintain required documentation including daily pool logs, safety checks, and incident reports
  • Enforce all pool rules and safety protocols consistently and effectively
  • Conduct regular inspections of pool facilities, equipment, and safety gear
  • Coordinate with camp leadership and relevant authorities to ensure the pool meets all regulatory requirements
  • Respond to and document any aquatics-related incidents or emergencies

Programming

  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee a safe and engaging free swim program for all camper age groups
  • Develop and facilitate a variety of aquatics electives that provide meaningful skill-building and fun experiences
  • Create inclusive programming that accommodates campers of varying swim levels and abilities
  • Collaborate with the broader program team to integrate aquatics programming into the overall camp schedule

Staff Supervision & Leadership

  • Supervise, train, and evaluate all lifeguard staff
  • Build a positive team culture among aquatics staff grounded in TY’s core values
  • Facilitate pre-camp and in-season trainings for pool staff
  • Ensure adequate lifeguard coverage for all pool programming
  • Serve as a Dugma Ishit (personal example) for both campers and staff

Camp Leadership

  • Participate actively as a member of the Leadership Team, contributing to camp-wide planning and decision-making
  • Be present and visible throughout camp, building relationships with chanichim and staff
  • Model positive behavior and contribute to a strong, inclusive camp culture
  • Support camp-wide events and programming beyond the pool as needed
  • Attend pre-camp training (14 days) and contribute to staff orientation

Who You Are

  • You are passionate about water safety and creating fun, engaging aquatics experiences for teens
  • You are a certified lifeguard with at least one season of lifeguard experience; you are certified or willing to become certified in lifeguard management
  • You are an organized, safety-conscious leader who can manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • You exercise sound judgment and remain calm under pressure
  • You are a collaborative team player who is excited about Tel Yehudah’s mission and values
  • You build strong relationships with a diverse range of people and thrive in a residential camp community
  • You are motivated, energetic, and bring enthusiasm and ruach (spirit) to your work

Qualifications

  • Current lifeguard certification required (we can recertify if certification is expiring soon)
  • Lifeguard management certification required or willingness to obtain prior to the start of the season
  • Minimum one season of experience as a lifeguard
  • Experience working with teens strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of New York State pool regulations and aquatics safety standards preferred
  • First Aid and CPR/AED certification required
  • Must be 21 years of age or older in compliance with NYS regulations
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States
  • Must be available to work from June 8-July 22

Compensation & Benefits

This is a seasonal, residential position. Compensation includes a seasonal salary commensurate with experience, as well as room and board for the duration of the summer.

Pay: $2,500.00 - $7,000.00 per year
