Assistant Director – Camp Rotary (Overnight Camp)Location: Boxford, MAEmployment Type: Seasonal - Summer (full time from the last week of June through the end of August)About Camp RotaryCamp Rotary is a traditional overnight camp dedicated to creating meaningful, memorable experiences for youth through recreation, community-building, and personal growth. We are seeking an enthusiastic, skilled Assistant Director to join our leadership team and help shape the summer for both campers and staff.Position OverviewThe Assistant Director is a key member of the directing staff and plays a central role in staff leadership, program quality, camper welfare, and overall camp operations. This individual works closely with the Camp Director and provides supervision, guidance, and support across all areas of camp life. The Assistant Director also acts as the Camp Director when needed. Join us to make a lasting impact through innovative programming and dedicated mentorship!QualificationsMinimum age: 25Education: Degree in a field aligned with camp’s philosophy (Recreation, Education, Social Work, Human Services, Natural Sciences, or related areas).Experience:At least two seasons of previous experience working as part of an administrative staff of a recreational camp for children or successful completion of a course in camping administration (or willingness to complete prior to camp season)Preferred experience in education at the elementary, middle, or high school level, or background in school counseling or education administrationProven experience working with youth in a camp or educational setting.Demonstrated leadership skills in managing teams and coordinating large-scale programs.Familiarity with summer camp environments or experience in summer camp programs.Strong organizational abilities combined with excellent communication skills to handle multiple responsibilities efficiently.Skills & Attributes:Strong organizational and leadership abilitiesEffective verbal and written communicationAbility to motivate, encourage, set limits, and maintain a positive, supportive environmentDetail-oriented, friendly, imaginative, creative, and comfortable with energetic/animated communicationAbility to maintain humility while leadingPhysical Requirements:Ability to navigate uneven camp terrain (rocks, hills, paths, stairs)Work long and consecutive days in varied weatherStay on-site overnight 5 to 6 nights per week in provided housingEssential FunctionsCommunicate professionally and effectively with diverse groups, both formally and informallyHandle phone communication with parents, vendors, and external partnersNavigate and operate within a physically demanding overnight camp environmentMaintain stamina, positivity, and professionalism throughout extended work hoursKey ResponsibilitiesStaff Leadership & DevelopmentOrganize, train, supervise, and evaluate camp staffSupport staff of varying experience levels in programming, counseling, and problem solvingServe as a role model in working with campers from diverse backgroundsProgram & Operations OversightCollaborate with Camp Director to oversee team of leadership staff such as Program Director, Waterfront Director, Lead Nurse, Head Chef, and Maintenance Director, ensuring completion of their responsibilitiesSupport counseling staff in working with campers, and assist Camp Director in behavior management and conflict resolution amongst campersReview weekly activities, theme days, and camp-wide events with program leadershipMaintain a safe, fun, and supportive environment for all campers and staffUphold and model the philosophy, mission, and values of Camp RotaryLeadership & RepresentationAct as Camp Director when the Director is off-site or unavailableSupport the directing staff team with evaluations, improvements, and decision-makingAddress disagreements professionally and privately, away from campers and counseling staffLead by example at all times, setting the tone for camp culture and professionalismOther DetailsReports directly to the Camp Director.Job Type: Seasonal (9 weeks, from last week of June to end of August)Work Location: In personMeals and housing provided on site throughout the camp season
